I have posted all over the eu4 subreddit, and watched as many guides on this as possible, but I can never get off the ground as brandenburg (or in general, but lately I am fixated on bbg) I have 3 dlc, art of war, common sense, and rights of man.

If anyone would be selfless enough to possibly set up a discord session to help walk me through some good opening moves, or something similar, I would be fucking grateful. I love the mechanics of the game, but I just cant seem to get my foot in the door and start really getting past the early early game.

note, I am 100 percent opposed to restart scumming, and it just ruins the fun for me, so I tend to just try to roll with whatever situation I am presented with. I originally would just try to go to war immediately with TO, but lately I have been trying to use show supperiority to gain some leader points, which has NOT been going well sadly.

Any advice or coaching would be appreciated. - Gorilla

Here iss what I do:

  • RM Bohemia, ally Poland, Austria, Denmark, Hungary (ally those you can/set same rivals when possible)
  • Force PU Bohemia
  • Take Pomeranian lands bordering Teutons
  • When Poland wardec Teutons occupy provinces along the coast but let them take regions with polish/lithuanian culture.
  • Vassalize Teutons
  • Support independence Sweden
  • Ally Sweden
  • Help Sweden eat Denmark/Novgorod/Livonian order (You want Swedish steel)
  • Wardec Poland feed teut polish/lithuanian cores and take polish ones for yourself.
  • Luck
So basically your starting point should be Bohemia in PU, Teutons as a vassal and strong allies in Sweden/Austria/Hungary. Vassalizing Livonian order is also a good idea so you can backstab Sweden and create a powerful vassal in the east. Be as Machiavellian as possible. Get influence as first idea for aggression impact reduction. Boost your vassals/turn them into marches and let them do a lot of the fighting. Beat up smaller nations ALL the time for prestige and money but not provinces to limit AE. Second idea I like to go for innovative so you can get that sweet liberty desire reduction so you can get large vassals.

May I advice you to not play it if you are new? its strongest nations yet one of most unadviced nations in game to start eu4.

before it you need to learn how to fight in game %100... that nation is all about combat and without understand how to squeeze everyting in combat you cant succeed with it

brandenburg/prussia is a small nation that is even with 200 dev can defeat 1200 dev ottoman armies... yet only if you know what you are doing . and if you dont its early game clown fiesta ^_^'''

if you want to play an military game play as france or ottoman... when you learn everyting about military return to prussia

I am not sure what else I would need to learn about combat at this point
as I said I advice you to pick france. they are a good powerhouse in region and got very powerful neighbors
observe what happens when you engage england when they try to strike from coasts, when you attack burgundy on mountains, how much morale you lose in combat , meaning of 1 more combat tech, diffrence between army with general and 1 without 1

hitchens' strat is pretty effective but very wishful and aggressive. As a newcomer you probably would have quite the rough time pulling that off.

A simpler one is to try as hard as you can (statesman advisor and whatever else you may) to ally Austria and Poland early on, then beat Pomerania ASAP. You MUST take a border with the Teutonic Order, and Stettin if possible for the estuary (nice trade power). Hope Poland takes a bit to get prepped for war with Teutonic Order, reset if needed. Make sure you declare and call Poland in offering land for them. This way you can get to pick what Poland gets - just stab them in the back and don't give them anything, instead take provinces for yourself, prioritizing Danzig, Königsberg, Memel, Marienburg, Tuchel/Ermland/Osterode/Ortelsburg, Kulm. If Poland occupies Danzig, force the Teutonic Order to release Danzig nation, and try to vassalize them or invade them as soon as the truce is over.

If you can secure Danzig, Stettin, Königsberg and Memel, you've got yourself all you need - your trade will be decent from the CoTs and Estuaries in the rich baltic node, you can form Prussia when the time comes, having Austria as an ally secures you from Bohemian and Polish aggression. Next step is just blobbing in wherever you smell weakness, typically those HRE minors and the orders in the baltics. The "boss" of the run is Poland and Lithuania, though bear in mind they can't form the Commonwealth without Danzig.

If you're following hitchens' rushy and aggresisve plan, a good option is to RM but not ally Burgundy to make you eligible for the Inheritance event.

As Brandenburg you want to form prussia. So you need to ally Poland but don't let them take the provinces of TO that you need. If they take it you will need to attack them.
Austria and Poland are good allies at start. There are a lot of opm to the west and pommerania is a good (but strong early) target. You should mid game be a military might, but early game you are a quite weak HRE nation. So don't overestimate your srenght, don't trust you allies in a long war and don't be greedy mind you agressive expansion in the HRE.

I do not have the greatest internet, however some coaching like that is exactly what I am looking for. If anything I could just describe scenarios via chat
can´t remember if host can play spectator, but if they can that would be ideal :)
