And whats the big deal anyway???
All we do is make more people buy the german version and not the others.
I agree, as I see it you've already bought one copy, ie licenced the game for you, and therefore you're entitled to any language you want to. But as I said before a language patch might be a bit touchy, but if the translations are buggy, as some people report, they might have to do some language patches, and those might work on any version not just the one the patch should fix.

I state this again since you didn't read it last time... I think that Paradox as a nice gesture to their fans should offer them to replace the german version to the one you want, then you would also get the manual in the language prefered (swedish in my case). I don't know how to do fix the procedures but that can most certenly be worked out.

I strongly suspect Gryphon is right when he writes,

'when you 'buy' a game you really dont own the game, what you own is a licence to use the files on the media that you bought.'

However, this troubles me deeply. For many ages of mankind, individuals have owned the tools and the products of communication -- the pencils, paper, books, magazines, etc. True, there have been some limits. I couldn't copy a book and sell the copies, but I could deface, cross out, translate, comment in the margins, etc, to my heart's content.

I am alarmed at the implications of computer software not belonging to the user. (Pardon me if I'm just stating the obvious that others have previously seen. I just never thought about this before.)

In theory, the maker of my word processor could prohibit certain kids of personal expression. After all, they own the software I am using. and if they own it, they could be legally liable for how the lessee uses it.

I'm sure that every author and publisher in history would have loved the power to say that they continued to own the copies -- individuals were just leasing them. What we seem to have here is a very sighificant shift in power. Maybe it will lead to nothing dangerous, but I don't feel easy about it.

As I said in my above post, I mean no trouble for Paradox. I have no intention of doing anything to hurt their chances to get the best possible financial reward for all their work... I'm just troubled by the implications of Gryphon's words, especially in areas beyond games.

I ain't no lawyer, but if you're going to mess around with the game code, don't post on the official website. Duh ;)

Yep obviosley since they left them in that way... And I can't see why you shouldn't be able to share them with your buddies, but as I said before, I'm not sure wheather it's legal to distribute them. But I think that the reason for leaving them readable is that you should be able to make your own campaign, and then give it to your friends or even post it on your webby or something... But I don't know if they would like the same thing to happen to the 'message file' but ask them. Or even better, could someone at Paradox state the official policy about this??? This could help us here :)

lots of buts and thinks... I just hope for an answer..
