I'm getting frustrated. Close to 6K hours played and now my games are just a huge problem with CTD until they become unplayable.

I only play Ironman; I've reached the point where if I start an Ironman game and save&quit the game is no longer functional.

My saves now over-write each other, I was having issues as a Republic (Manaw, I started my first bug thread on it...) and decided to start a game as a non-Titular title in case that was causing issues. Started Strathclyde played a bit and saved&quit (Ironman mode, started the game as Ironman_Strathclyde). When trying to load the game, I had two saves Ironman_Strathclyde with a subtext of INVALID SAVEGAME and Ironman_Manaw with the Strathclyde Coat of Arms and on load with my Strathclyde savegame.

Started yet another game in Ireland after deleting both of those games, saved&quit normally and now the savegame is corrupt when I try and load it.

I'm USED to frustration with this game, the kind I pay when my eldest son turns out slow and I can't murder him quick enough...I am not happy with the latest issues. Just in case anyone thinks I'm into Hyperbole with my played time:

This is my first really show-stopping issue with any game in the franchise, and simply after this many hours in the game I can't actually play it anymore. Very disappointing :(

Have you seen the numerous posts around on the issue with the Norse Unit pack? Do you have that pack?

Please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the end of the "Sound devices" section for brevity) and your Documents/CK2/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ directory, post system.log . Open setup.log in notepad and search for 'checksum', post that line only here too please.

Thanks for the response Andrew. I don't have any Unit Packs or Player-created Mods, so maybe that's the issue. I have noticed that things start crashing after the Norse Invasions trigger.

I see you have a dual Intel/nVidia system. Make sure ck2game.exe is running on the nVidia, you can force this in the nVidia Control Panel 3D settings area.

That aside, you fit exactly the profile of the crashes triggered by the lack of the Norse Unit Packs, so all we can do is wait for a patch for that. sorry. I can't imagine it'll be long.

Thanks, I went out and bought the Norse Unit Pack, The Celt Unit Pack, and the Celt Portraits. The game ran fine but then still CTD'd when I was trying to press a kinsman's claim in Sicily. I wonder if the Unit Pack issue isn't confined to one culture? That could explain why things were smooth until I started dealing with the Byz...

Based on your suggestion I checked the graphic settings - I'm running on the NVidia rather than any on-board chip.

I'm seriously upset that I basically wasted that money. Considering this is another 10 hours wasted on a now-corrupted Ironman game on top of the cash (I'd sworn off buying Unit Packs because I loathe the SIMS-pay for content model, but that's another topic). I know its not your fault or anything, but this is my favorite game and is now basically unplayable. It would be one thing if a random CTD didn't corrupt an Ironman game, but that isn't the case. I have the savegame this time if anyone wants to look at it and see if they can determine the cause.
