I am toying with the idea of trying in game a huge cavalry stack to fight the AI.
With 2:1 annihilation rule and the effect on peace deals of wiping out the enemy army it looks like cavalry is the best to quickly destroy the ability of your enemy to fight.

Cavalry is very quick and they can reach and destroy many armies before they can group, at least theoretically.

Did any of you try this strategy already?
Granted, you'll still need some infantry as well for sieges, but in that case militia could be enough.

And when you charge an enemy stack of 30 000 Heavy Infantry?

It's obvious that you need to be careful on what you are engaging. I believe that in a MP game you wouldn't try this, but against the AI it is possible. The said HI stack can be "treated" with a backup HI stack to use along with your cavalry or, if the situation allows it, with attrition.

Well you could use the cavalry stack to prevent enemy reinforcements from reaching the frontlines. Would need the Catapract idea to be really powerful.

But, you could get 80K HI for the same price and they can assauly fortresses.

That's true. But 80k HI are slower and you need to keep them splitted in 2-3 groups or the attrition would kill them fast.

The idea to use CAV to prevent enemy reinforcement is good and maybe a 10k stack could be enough if the AI keeps moving 3-5 units at a time.

A 10k cavalry stack is the ideal raider in my opinion, it even works well against human opponents since they can easily move out of the way when the killer stacks arrive.

In the late game, I've been using a stack of cavalry behind the front lines to raid. I keep two or three infantry stacks (mixed with support troops) to assault provinces on the front lines.

I can rack up lots of wins by killing off the 2k reinforcement troops that the AI is gathering.

If I see a big AI stack coming, I put my cavalry on triremes and spirit them away.

I used 14K cavalry armies (8K cavalry, 6k horse archers) to pick up small enemy siege units in my territory and to raid small reinforcement detachements behind the enemy's line.
With the catapharac national idea they even stay a good chance against bigger armies of similar size including a mix of troops.
