The new Emperor might not have his father’s head for diplomacy or administration, but he is good at military and it seems it has worked out... Interesting Swedish “professor” I think he seems to have some excellent ideas :)
So you conquered some of the nations in the world with the most gold in the entire world, well that should make sure your finances will never see trouble, you might already have been the richest nation in the world, but now you are richer than ever before and I am guessing no one will ever have a chance of earning as much as the Empire.
Wonderful work!

Excellent! Your powers continue to grow, I see. The proclamation of a German Empire grows ever nearer, and the Bohemians stay from annexation appears to be likely to end even sooner. Your new armies, reformed and more efficient, look ready to unleash havoc upon any power that dares stand in your way.

I noticed right after reading of the attempts to reconcile with the pope that in the screenshot the Papal State does not exist! Its controlled by Sicily, it looks like.

Ah, Weapon Manufactories. You know, Weapon Manufactories are like an artery clogging brätwurst. A good one may cost you quite a bit, but when it is finished, you feel like you've accomplished something. And the effects will stay with you for years... :)

Nice empire in the New World. Are you trying to break Spain's historical record of colonizing and annexing in the New World? :D

Coz, since I'm a firm believer in the carrot policy (with a hint of stick) I must say that I'm impressed. You've taken the time to keep the balance between European and American policies which is a lot of juggling. You are doing so good that I'm beginning to be afraid that you'll lose motivation (as I so often seem to do). That with the absence of gaming time syndrome leads to unwillingness to end AARs.

I hope that is not the case for You. Anways, I wanted to say that I really liked your updates. Liquidate that hole between mobile and aztec provinces. :)

J. Passepartout - I was not having much issue making money before, but the influx of gold has been a real help. And I had to figure out some reason why it was named after Adolphus given that Sweden disappeared some time ago.

Lord E - Indeed, I am the richest nation in the world now, by far. My second closest competitor is probably the Ming.

Corbett - Truthfully, I am not sure that German nation event will ever fire. And at this point, it might be simply an afterthought given the nature of Europe at this time, and especially the absence of Austria. We'll see. I might have to take it just to make sure I get the one extra merchant. :p

leftyboy87 - That's probably because the screenie is actually from some time later since I had that screenie issue for ten years or so. But it's also part of that gang-bang Milan, Tuscany and Sicily keep inflicting on the Pope. One or the other will annex him and then release him a little while later to give another the chance. He must be pretty sore, I don't mean mad.

Chief Ragusa - I agree. It was that they had not that I decided to take the plunge. I figured they would eventually, and if they were leaving the door open for me, I figured - "hey, why not enter?"

stnylan - Very true. I have not looked around much beyond that. I know Portugal is doing well in Brazil and Spain in N. Africa. But outside of the NA colonies and upper SA, I have not seen too much other colonization. I need to check South Africa and see what's up down there.

Secret Master - Yup. It took me a few years to maintain some real hard fiscal restraint to build those two, but they are helping already. I have a mind to perhaps build one more, but I am also looking at those other manufactories. I probably need a Naval Yard or two to help catch up in Naval tech. As for the new world, hey - if no one else will, I'll go ahead and take the opportunity. ;)

Deus - That's generally how I play. Not too aggressive, but taking chances when something can be gained. Besides - I like colonizing, but no too far. It really is a pain to have to jump all over the map every couple of months. Thus I have tried to keep my major colonies in one general spot both for ease of administering them and protecting them with armies. But I just had to try and take Taiwan. It's always a personal favorite. I am also looking to Australia eventually. As for gettingbored - it is certainly a risk. But I always play through my games. If anything, they span of time within updates might increase if not much is happening. I don't feel the need to highlight the same events over and over again.

To all - another update will follow later in the day. I played through the 1650s this weekend and some interesting things have happened. Thanks for all your great comments!

Graymane - And I am glad that you did. As for colonizing, it's like I said - I have my favorite spots and then I try to build out from there. Sometimes, though, opportunity knocks. :D

SonofWinter - Feed, feed. :D Seriously though, I am glad that you are. And even if you don't have any advice now, I have truly appreciated what you have suggested along the way. It has helped me learn a lot. And you'll note in this coming update that I took a little bit of that advice. :)

To all - the next update follows. It's another rather peaceful one, but after this, we get a little adventure. I bet you can't guess where. ;)

It was in 1635 that relations with Burgundy, which had been so high for many years, began to once more fall. This was primarily due to the Emperor being wary of an alliance with them. Of course we accepted any time they offered a marriage alliance, but militarily, we could not do this. Their constant wars with Milan were our major concern, but so too was the chance that it might drag us into a war with France that we had little desire to prosecute at such time. We would not be enemies, The Empire and Burgundy, especially as they were now part of it, but we would not be as close.

HRE1635.jpg

Otherwise, we would remain on good and close terms with Bohemia and Albrecht did his best to raise our relations once more with Milan. We were also to try and send missionaries that year to Chiaha and Zacatecas, but both would eventually fail. Thankfully, a bit of good news followed in 1636 when we began to build custom houses throughout the land, raising our tax revenues nicely. That same year, we would also begin to colonize the southern tip of those former Cherokee lands in a place often called Seminole.

The Emperor, as stated earlier, spent a good amount of time with his family and as I had been the longest tenured advisor, it was often left up to me to find replacements. And so it was that in early 1637, I met and then hired a bright young court painter by the name of Karl von Kyau. Though we had an exceptional painter already in Christian Wilhelm Perlowski, his work was not as good in my opinion, and there was some concern regarding the Polish factions at court.

HireKarlvonKyau.jpg

And the hiring of this man did me much good as it allowed more time to focus on governmental duties. Over the next year, I would have the ability to go over our books and looking at every available step to both save us money where possible and to maximize the revenues; I was finally to push an idea that the Emperor was quite keen on. Named after an English economist, we were soon gaining nearly ten percent more on our production efficiency and this of course meant all of our research and production revenue would quickly increase.

SmithsonianEconomics.jpg

But alas, the Empire did have some trouble during these years when Milan would go to war with the Iberian Alliance of Castile, Aragon and Portugal. It was mostly fought in the colonies, and truth be told, it was there that the conflict began. However, we were surprised when Milan was able to press as hard as they were pulled and by late summer of 1640, Milan would make peace with Aragon, stripping them of much of their South American colonies.

MilandefeatsAragon.jpg

Castile and Portugal would remain at war with Milan for three more years at which time; Milan would take most of those Central American colonies owned by Castile. It was clear that they were not near as beaten as we might have suspected earlier and thus we increased our gifts to keep them friends and perhaps even potential allies in the years to come.

Elsewhere, there was some outstanding news in February of 1642 when after some years of sending merchants quite a long ways, we were to see that we held a monopoly in the great trading house in Zacatecas. Having placed little amount of finances in such ventures in previous years, we could not keep such a level, but it was a proud day for at least that one moment.

monopolyinZacatecas.jpg

Our efforts were mostly centered on the same path that we had followed for over a century – colonizing, diplomacy and internal production and taxation. This had built the Empire. We even attempted to send colonists to Bayougoula in 1643, but the following spring would see that ship sink just off the coast. It was clear such new ventures would need to wait until we had completed those we had been working towards for years. And in December of 1644, the shining example of our colonizing finally became a city when Taiwan, that small island clear across the world from us, grew past over one thousand settlers.

Taiwanbecomescity.jpg

Instantly we signed orders for a great fortress to be built there and sent regiments to keep it well protected. We knew not what other adventures we might have in that part of the world in future years, but this colony, now city, was wealthier than all others put together thanks to its already high population that had eagerly joined with our own settlers.

By 1645, we had increased our governmental knowledge some twenty-one times that which we knew back when Friedrich von Manstein began this log and it was clear that we would keep on that great path for many, many more years to come. And though the next five years would see much of the same quiet growth we had become accustomed to, Emperor Albrecht would make sure that changed come 1650. It was clear that the second half of this century would be far more active than the first.

Wow, look at Milan go! Central and South America will soon learn Italian, I suspect.

Your two areas of colonies deserve a land link. Finish up Florida - one less flank to worry over - and then look into a land link from the Mississippi River to Mexico.

Hah! You own Taiwan!
Do you think Milan will form Italy?
Also, how much more do you intend to conquer in Europe?
Where will you colonize next?

coz1: (417) ...And having no children of his own, and no other male heirs of the Habsburg line, the title of Austria would pass to his next closest relative… …his nephew, Joachim III Nestor – the Emperor...

do/did you get BB from inheriting provinces ? ?

if so, what was your BB change ? ? :) [ if possible, the from and the to. ]

coz1: ...Immediately..the Emperor signed documents that allowed Croatia, Alsace and Brittany their freedom as vassals.

BB effect ? ? :)

ya, like they would press the claim ! ! :D

magnificent updates ! !

it has been tough - and a joy - to try and catch up on the many AARs that i am behind in ! ! and, as you can tell, i am still in the middle of this one ! ! :)

Congrats on Taiwan. Corect me if I'm wrong but Milan seems a perfect candidate for an alliance after the wars she's in have ended. You may even form a sort of agreement that the N-America is Yours and S-America theirs. With your weights combined you would be the most powerful alliance bloc there is.
