$40 for vanilla CK2 and $80 for the complete pack?

Being a EU player since 2000, the CK series has always been a mystery to me. I have watched people playing it on Youtube without understanding at all what they were doing.

Lately, I have been watching Arumba's CK2 tutorial on Youtube and I think I'm getting it. I'm now interested to try it out.

The only thing that's holding me back is... the price. I mean $40 for vanilla CK2 and $80 for the complete pack? This can't be right. CK2 was released more than two years ago...

Are people really paying that much to get into CK2?

No. A lot of people buy it on sale. If you're willing to wait, just put it on your wishlist on a number of sites selling the game and wait for a good deal.

Wait until it goes on sale; it can go for really cheap. It's so expensive because it's been out for more than 2 years. There have been expansions and DLC being released that entire time.

Don't worry dude, the DLC are totally optional and Vanilla CK2 is just as enjoyable. For the longest time, I was running off of LOR and TOG, and that was enough for thousands of hours of playing. Didn't pick up SOI till faced with a convert-or-die situation. That's all I had for 1800 hours of game time, and didn't pick up the remaining till recently coming into a cash windfall.

So don't stress it. You'll have a complete experience, even if you can't force your sons into monasteries.

Pay what you want. $6.40 if that's what it's worth to you, but you'll need to pay $6.40 to get CK2 and not just the other games. You do get all of them if you pay it, though.

It's also worth mentioning that there is usually a big sale -- often 75% off if I recall correctly? -- whenever an expansion comes out, and a new one was just announced. That's often on every DLC listed. So you can get the core DLC:

It's $6ish on humble bundle for 3 dlc or $20ish for the complete pack. I'm pretty sure it's by far the best deal at the moment.

Greenman gaming does, and have sales pretty often. That's where a lot of people go to buy the DLC before it comes out.

In the US games start ~$50, and usually drop to $10-20 after a year or two. $40 is quite a bit for CKII considering it's age *and* that you don't even get something like retinues (only included in the DLC for another $5). I'm reluctant to recommend it to people to play multiplayer since so much of the good stuff is locked behind DLCs.

The DLCs are on sale on Steam routinely for like £2.50 or less each. That's less than a cup of Starbucks coffee.

Got CKII and every DLC prior to ToG and CKI for about $11. Valued at $128.

Don't multiplayer games all get the host's DLC?

Either way, PC games hold their value much, much better than console games do, due to the lack of a resale market -- but there are more frequent sales from more diverse outlets, especially the digital ones.
