Is this the fastest division possible in Hoi4? Can anyone make a faster one? Are there more modifiers?

Calculation:
Light Tank 3 (1941) Base Speed = 14 km/h
  • New Zealand Mobile tank designer (5%) + UK Blitzkrieg theorist (10%) -> 14 * 1.15 = 16.1 km/h
  • Variant Speed +5 (+20% of speed of base model) 14*0.2 = 2.8 -> 16.1 + 2.8 = 18.9 km/h
  • Elastic defense (Land doctrine) +10% -> 18.9 * 1.1 = 20.79 km/h
-> Base Speed 20.79

Modifiers:
  • Light Tank Recon -> Hills +10%
  • General / Field Marshal Traits:
    • General trait "Hill Fighter" +5%
    • Field Marshal trait "Hill Fighter"+2.5%
    • General trait "Improvisation Expert" +10%
    • Field marshal trait "Improvisation Expert" +5%
    • All shown together in one tooltip: 5%+2.5%+10%+5% = 22.5%
  • Alan Brooke (Chief of Army) +30% (bug, should be 15%)
  • Mobile Warfare (Land doctrine) +20% (bug, should be 10%)

Yep, because there is no trait "plains specialist" or something, but "Hill Fighter" "Desert Fox" and "Mountaineer".

Light Tanks get a speed debuff shown in tooltip from forrest marshes and jungle.
But there is also "Movement cost"

"Increases the distance units have to travel by this factor."

Moving through Mountains you see the same speed in the tooltip as when moving through plains, but it takes double the time. (+100% Movement Cost)

(At least if I understand that mechanic correctly)

Yes, the stright-line path between two tiles is increased. But what are we measuring? The ability to go from some abstract points A to B in the least amount of time? Or the ability to catch and encircle enemy divisions? In the former, you should pick a path that is all plains or desert, if the latter, then it doesn't matter.

If you factor the distance multiplier in, if the double bonus from doctrine were fixed, deserts would still be faster than plains. 1.45/1.375/1.05 = 1.004, so they would be 0.4% faster. As it stands, 1.65/1.575/1.05 = 0.998, they end up being 0.2% slower.

You can get more speed from improvisation expert on your general and field marshal, If I'm not mistaken.
OMG, you're right. I checked all traits for speed modifiers. Must have been blind at that one... Grmpf...

I updated the calculation and edited the first posting. Now it's 37.42 km/h :eek:


Fun fact: Going from Lisbon to Vladivostok took 32 days. :D

The UK has a maneuver genius (+5% more than Germany's expert) as well as a blitzkrieg theorist, but they don't have a light tank designer. Does that help or hinder?

The Impactful Designers mod (1110495756) has add-on equipment designers. One of which is Bussing, a German armored car designer.
This designer gives a +25% Max Speed for Light Tank Destroyers!
Yikes - how would you like to see a division of those coming over the (downside of) hills at you. o_O

As it turns out, yes. The extra +5% from maneuver genius benefits the final result by 0.61 km/h more than the +5% from light tank designer. Anyone else have any ideas?

Does MOT recon slow you down? If not, you might be able to add that in instead of the LARM recon (assuming it doesn't give a smaller bonus on hills.)
