Papal Controller still doesn't work.

Thread title says it all.

Pope Anselm dies, Bishop of Mide is elected.

Catalonian Duke with no relation/connection to the new Pope is controller.

This was also the case when Beatrice of Bar died, but I didn't have teh good sense to look and see if Ramon of Catalonia had any connection to Anselm.

It CTD'd within a week.

I had a female pope who was 25 years dead when she came to the papal throne in my first game with 1.02. This was, however, in a user mod (ICoCK).

I am not sure I understand your Papal Controller issue here.

Also, if people could have separate thread for separate bug...

If you still have a female pope or a kid pope, sure it's a bug, but not a papal controller issue.

As far as I can tell, in 1.02 whoever has the highest piety becomes Pope controller. Family relations don't affect it at all, apparently.

Perhaps that how it should be...
I witnessned both casess.
1. when I had the highest piety and
2. when I was closely related to the Pope


...and still I didn't get to be the controller. I really don't get it...

I am currently papal controller as King of Portugal. The pope is German and has no relation to me whatsoever.

In my very first game I also became papal controller as a vassal duke. I don't think the pope was related to me. So I second this -- there is a problem somewhere.

seems to work for me... seem both cases... I think it goes like this.

1. relative becomes Pope then the leige is the controller.. ( saw this once.. one of my Dukes became papal controller... when one of his sons became pope... I think he was a 2nd or 3rd cousin to me or something.... it's hard to keep track sometimes)

2. if there is no direct relation then the ruller with highest piety becomes controller...


personally though I havn't seen much advantage to being the papal controller... excommunicating someone does exactly SQUAT!!

The manual claims it's based on family relations - hence the issue. In game it seems to be based on piety, which actually when you think about it makes more sense (except the historic example of the Borgias).

Anyhow.... excommunicating does do something. It removes them from any inheritance (as if they were a bastard) and also makes claiming their titles far cheaper in terms of prestige. The main problem is that the player has no control over papal prestige and the popes are often elected with no, or negative, prestige, making the excommunicate command unavailable.
