Currently, it's only 32-bit. There's hasn't been any word on switching to 64-bit, but the fact that the next version of Mac OS is apparantly dropping 32-bit support may force their hand. The most obvious advantage is that it will be able to access more than 3.2 GB RAM. The most obvious disadvantage is that it won't run on systems with a 32-bit operating system, though 64-bit has been the standard for long enough that this shouldn't affect too many people.

Of course, the initial response would be "why not?" Getting more RAM is good but it's not like CK2 will get any younger. Regrettably, I believe this infrastructure attempt would be futile. Unless many modders believe they would benefit from it or it won't take an extreme amount of time for the developers. If this is going to cause sync issues or turn modders life in hell, then no.

They ought to do it. My friends who are not gamers don't even have 32-bit computers anymore.

Playing this game on the lowest recommended spec is not a pleasant experience so it only makes sense.

i was actually quite surprised when i learned that they were going to port EU4 to 64bit. i guess that will be the "pilot project" and if/after they succeed they will have a good idea how much effort it would be to also port their other titles and if it makes sense economically.

Well a lot of people against china brought as main reason that their systems woudl lag, now with a 64 bit change they would have no issues as CKII would use all ram.

RAM isn't causing the lag, it's the engine (and processor) being bogged down with event checks for characters. Adding the rest of Asia would be crippling to the game's performance. May as well take it out back and shoot it like Ol' Yeller if east Asia is added.

multithreading is not actually dependent on 64bit. pretty sure the game already uses multiple threads. at least to some extent.

guess it's just the nature of the game that it's more processor heavy. lots of calculations that depend on each other and can't be split up for logical reasons.

of course i don't actually know the insides of the game - i don't work for paradox.

You have use multy threading.

Multithreading has existed longer than 64bit operating systems I think. Not to mention that the two are completely unrelated in the first place. The "problem" with Clausewitz is that not a lot of functions can be run in parallel, so 1 core gets the bulk of the load AFAIK. That's the late game lag for PDX titles, it's not because it's on a single core or because the engines are 32bit.

Cant be updated to make yse of multiple cires and ram with the 64 update? Its a pity to have to wait a ckiii to have asia as it wpuld take 5 years to reach full dlc as a conplete game .

That's basically two separate reworks. Of the two, reworking engine logic to make it so you can spread it (more) across multiple processors or cores is probably the bigger one. I'm not sure how much it already does this or if it does at all, (I've never bothered looking), but that can involve fundamentally reworking the underlying architecture and logic of the engine.

This might helo on a possible Asia expansion? Accessing more ram?

You know they probably would not make an asian expansion that extended the map again, but not for technical reasons. At least not enough to cover an in-map Chinese state. It would make the Jade Dragon redundant, and while they have a few expansions that are already toeing the line, in this case, it almost seems it would turn it obsolete.

I guess Jade Dragon is the best possible implementation they could work on the game taking in count all their possible limitations.
