No, never seen it happen.

What is supposed to be? (What events are there to recreate history?)

Historically, IIRC, the Habsburg emperor issued the "Letter of Majesty" to the Hussite Bohemians granting them freedom of worship. His successor tried to revoke this freedom and bring Bohemia more firmly into the Habsburg fold. The Bohemian lords revolted, threw the Habsburg emissary out of a window (the famous "Defenestration of Prague") and elected the Elector Palatine as king. The Czech resistance was crushed at the battle of White Mountain, but not before the Spaniards had declared for Austria and overrun the Palatinate (one of the main blockages on the road between their rich Italian provinces and their rebellious Dutch ones).

In *game* terms - well, I don't know because I don't have it on this computer but I often see the Austrians deciding against issuing the Letter of Majesty and therefore defusing the whole thing.

Hello Brickie,
In my multiplayer game, I fought Sweden and Brandenburg during the correct time for the Thirty Year War. I chose to turn all Bohemians into Catholics and that in turn lead to our litle war. It only turned into about a six year war. The time was limited by me fighting Sweden and the Ottomans at the same time. Fun except for the butt-whipping i got:)

Defenestration of Prague - I had always assumed that the Hapsburg envoys were killed; when I finally got the chance to see the famous window, I was amazed to find that it wasn't all that high off the ground. Found out that the envoys landed in the castle midden heap (garbage / sh__ pile). Now that would constitute an insult!
In the game, though, it's perhaps a good thing that the 30 Years' War doesn't happen. The Austrians would have to face Gustavus Adolphus (does he ever lose a battle?)

Actually there where several versions about what happened to those envoys. The protestant ones usualy go like the one you heard while Catholics of the time insisted that they either landed on a conviniently placed bible which broke their fall or that there was some sort of other divine intervention which made them survive ;)

(as I recall it's generally believed today that they didn't land on anything at all)

I've never seen the 30 years war, mostly because Austria normally succeeds in uniting most of the empire long before it occurs. All hail the big white blob!

This is a bad thing - it's about time the Big White Blob faced someone who can do them some damage.

Greetings,

I'm relatively new to the game, but I've been playing Sweden AoM exclusively since October.

Trying to play historically, I always go after Austria sometime between 1624 and 1630.

I never have a problem with the big white blob thereafter.

Regards,

The Corsair

I didn't see one war lasting 30 years, but I did see Austria fighting Brandenburg and other protestant countries 3 times between 1618 and 1648.

But neither Sweden no France (right, it was me, and I was busy elsewhere) got involved. Neither Poland IIRC. And Holland didn't exist (my own, my precious, my ... HERETICS!). So, not a true 30 Years War.

And, it's the first time I see such a coalition of protestant german minors in war against the white blob. It is, without my active involvment in the events.

Didn't he lose the Battle of Nördlingen by dint of dying in it?

no, the battle of nördlingen was fought several years after his death. it broke down the swedish led coalition of german protestant states but gustav adolf died at the battle of lutsen 1632.
that battle is generally counted as a swedish victory, so even if he died he didnt really loose any major battle.
