1-Reading through several threads I see that pops buying stuff from your stockpile dont pay tarrifs. But the 1.03 beta patch text says it fix a bug related to that. So that means I should now play normally, and should feel free to have factories producing normal stuff that pop's buy?

2-The New Manual and Strategy guide as well as some AAR's say that you can steal other countries claims. So, playing as china I have some troops in transports off shore of the australia provinces right before the opium war starts. As soon as war is declared and land my troops on british claimed provinces. Some of the provinces are fully claimed (ie the claim building is not under construction, its finished) while some are in the process of being claimed. The guide says I only have to keep my army there for 1 day to steal the claim. I have done so (for a few months actually) but nothing has happened. I also tried moving my armies to other provinces and then back, but that didnt seem to work either. My armies consist of single division leaderless native infantry units. What am I doing wrong?

3-In an AAR I read it was suggest to put Tariffs at 100%. No mention was ever made of lowering it. Is this a good idea? There has got to be a downside to this, right? Or is it ok to just keep tariffs at max the whole game? If it makes any difference I have poor taxes at about 27%, the other 2 at 33%.

1) The quote from the patch is "- Fixed a bug where pops buying items from your exports did not decrease the correct amount from stockpile, making tariffs worthless". That means that now, when POPs buy stuff that you have, the stockpile actually goes down by the right amount...I think. But then again, I've never been very good with POPs needs questions, so I'll move along.

2) To steal a claim, it needs to be finished. I'm pretty sure you can't steal a claim that isn't finished with construction yet. Can you just not steal those, or can you steal none at all?

3) Tariffs, for some reason, appear not affect your POPs' income at all. As I understand the recent revelations, the money actually just magically appears. What i can say for certain is that I've been playiong with tariffs at max in my current game. It's thirty years in and I've seen no bad side effects.

1. The bug was that if you produced ANY of a good you got NO tariffs from that good. e.g if you make 0.1 clothes and your pops need 0.5, you will still get tariffs for the 0.4 they have to import while before the patch you would get none.

2. You can actually steal claims still being build, but uncivilized nations cannot steal claims.

3. Yup. It'll annoy pops with free trade as an issue, but that's it.

Now that's something I didn't know!

I stumbled across it to a while back when playing as the U.S. and attacking Russia and UK in the beginning to get Alaska and Canada. It helped nicely becuase throughout the colonial war the UK kept building claims wherever it could in Canada and I snagged them :)

Yup, I just found it:
"- Uncivilized nations can no longer take control of civilized nations claims."
Right out of Johan's 1.03 Betapatch post in the stickies.
