Problem here is that this is a visual downgrade from hoi3. Hoi3 had photos for almost all the units, generals, ministers. Dlc was only for 3d models on map. Now for hoi 4 we have some 2d art for majors and rest is generic and destined for paid dlc? Count me out if that is true, I dont care what modelers can do to replace dev work. Some personal thoughts
1. The nickel diming stretching to 2D tech pics along with the other stuff (bare bones game Stellaris ) is starting to give a sea change impression. 'Good-will' negative modifier.
2. I want there to be Content expansions for my favourite games. If this is a way to facilitate that, then sell them to who will buy anything.
3. Relax, in time mods usually do a better job of pics anyway.
Yes, I think we deserve clarification here. 40$ is not worth a visual downgrade from hoi3. I expect a better visual experience from this not worse. Perfectly fine with skipping this game if thAt is the case.I would really appreciate a developer commenting on this.
So 40 $ for half the experience, and a note attached that says, "don't worry the modders will fill in our gaps "If you dont want the offical ones by paradox you can always relie on modders making their owns. Paradox isnt preventing 2d or 3d modeling and infact released their maya plugin, making 3d modelling even easier for HoI IV.
As for the matter, if you start working for free then the artists at paradox might consider working for free aswell. I for my part want to get paid for my work. They cant release everything for free, Companies dont work like that. Cosmetic DLC are the most fair (since 100% optional) way to keep the artists employed.
Be happy that they even allow modding, which basicly allows people to bypass any paywall. Other Publishers charge 60 or nowdays even 80 for the base game and prevent modding as best as they can and sell you everything extra for a kidney and a leg. Purely cosmetic stuff doesnt affect the gameplay, so you can barely speak about "half the game".So 40 $ for half the experience, and a note attached that says, "don't worry the modders will fill in our gaps "

Stop putting words in my mouth. I said that we should be happy that they allow us to mod all that stuff rather than forcing us to pay for it. You still get the game anyway. They didnt leave out features, atleast from what we know, to sell them as dlc on/after release. Cosmetic DLCs are by far the least dramatic type of dlc there is out there. I never claimed i would be happy with it either, but i am not upset either. If i dont want to pay for it, i dont. I wont miss out on the gameplay. Worst case i have to wait for mods that do the same stuff or do it myself. Paradox is even showing people how to mod such stuff in the modding streams they are doing. What?
I'm sorry, but this is too much even for me.
We should be happy because they leave the game art unfinished, and let us paying customers finish it?
I mean, this is not a dealbreaker for me, but come on. At least be unhappy about it.
I support spritepacks, 100 percent. But the 2d art in this game is supposed to replace the photos in prior games. It is a CORE element to the game. Every hoi game has had pictures of units and historical leaders as the base game. Now it be dlc? How do they justify a downgrade? If you dont want the offical ones by paradox you can always relie on modders making their owns. If you recall HoI III sold spritepacks aswell, even tho the game was not really that playable with 3d models active, due to the lack of vital information on the screen. That is one reason Counters became so popular in HoI III.
As long as people don't consider it a deal breaker, things will not change. What?

So seeing generic pics where there used to be specific ones for units and leaders and adding them later as dlc is not leaving out features?Stop putting words in my mouth. the 2d art for tanks and planes is there either way. I dont recall there being custom art for ships in HoI III tho. As far as i remember they were simple stock photos. So seeing generic pics where there used to be specific ones for units and leaders and adding them later as dlc is not leaving out features?
Hearts of Iron II had ship photos, but I don't know about III.the 2d art for tanks and planes is there either way. I dont recall there being art for ships in HoI III tho. I cant check either since the game refuses to start at all since windows 10.
they had black&white stock photos rather than 2d art in HoI III. Looked through a few old screenshots i still had. I doubt they would charge you for something they probably downloaded off of Wikipedia.Hearts of Iron II had ship photos, but I don't know about III.
Photos. And besides I guess I am spoiled by dh which includes all of that without dl c. Too bad paradox didn't learn from that model.the 2d art for tanks and planes is there either way.
