There is a great program out there, Display Fusion, that is amazing for mutliple monitors but gives you incredible control and usability of 3440x1440 as well.

sssh, don't tell them that there is no such thing as 21:9, you will ruin the illusion of "easy fix".

Seriously the amount of people out there trying to diminish the desire of others for a feature that most modern games possess is nuts. As for the 21:9 ratio being a standard anyone using these monitors knows the real ratios so your point is lame at best.

There is easy fix that I know of but then again I am not a programmer. What I DO know is using DX libraries it is possible for a game to have dynamic resolutions, the reason you have 1080, 1440, 4K and below. Most games resize the UI based on the resolution so when you play at 4K it is readable and not tiny print. When they do not allow the UI tro resize as resolution goes up the complaints in forums go on forever.

In the beta of the game the games combat engine worked fine with 21:9, so we know they had, at that time some beginnings of proper ultrawide support. From there is the issue is just a rescalable UI. Something again, people tend to want. A UI they can move around the screen or scale as they like.

The issues we did see with UI in Beta that were the most troubling happened at menu screens. The solution for that is SIMPLE, limit the games resolution in those screens. It is a dirty and quick solution but is very simple to implement. Not ideal but does create a solution that works.

But your right lets not ruin the illusion that 21:9 is a legitimate market among gamers. Also lets not ruin the illusion that a simple short term fix to remove a potential issue is impossible.

This very thread has people complaining about not wanting black bars. Limiting the resolution to a different aspect ratio would either stretch everything sideways or add black bars.

I'm fine with black bars, personally (if they are limited to menu screens; otherwise I'd rather just run it windowed). Just pointing out that not everyone will be happy with that.

I agree with you, if we do not have fuill support right now then limiting certain screens to 16:9 with black bars is fine with me.

Mate, you might want to take a deep breath, the bloke was joking, he was not attempting to "diminish the desire of others" or claiming that 21:9 is not a legitimate market. :) I think the comical "shhh" at the start was the clue ;)
I get it, you really want to use your whole screen to play the game, I'm sure the devs get it too and once they have the tie post launch they will look into it.
Your solution may indeed be simple, or it may not, I'll leave that for the programmer here to comment on, but if the lovely folks of HBS are able to implement "true" 21:9 support wouldn't you rather they focused on that?

I just wanted to comment on the entire 21:9 being some kind of fringe resolution or aspect ratio. It's not really a resolution because you have multiple resolutions at that ratio.

Just do a search on Amazon, Newegg or any store that sells monitors and use the term "Ultrawide" and it will be clear that the number of available 21:9 monitors that was a half dozen a few years ago is now 4-5 times that!

Companies are not pouring resources into monitor development because there are a lack of sales. The 21:9 monitor market is exploding and once anyone actually uses one, few can ever return to a standard monitor.

With 29" Ultra's being as low as $150ish on sale and 34" Ultra's $200ish on sale (for the non-curved, lower resolution versions that work much better with low-mid end GPU's) you would be hard pressed to NOT consider one when looking for a monitor.

4k really does nothing for gaming aside from increase your cost of gaming by requiring a beefy GPU to drive that resolution. It's the wide aspect ratio that really makes this work. With first person shooters it really shines but even for MMO's or even games like Battletech which are more like a board game, the extra wide screen allows not only a larger view of the battlefield but moves many parts of the UI off to the sides and out of your line of view.

Another thing few people realize is that all Ultra Wides are made using the much better IPS monitor tech that produces far superior color over cheap TN panels. Sure you can get quality IPS panels with non-ultra wide but many people are like...

Why should I spend $200ish on an ultrawide when I could get a standard monitor for $150 or even less. Well those cheap monitors use TN tech which produces poor color but to be fare the TN panels often do have a quicker refresh. (the extra color bits for IPS take slightly longer to refresh) but today the difference is far closer in speed over it once was.

So you get more for your money than just a wider screen as compared to cheap standard monitors.

Okay so pressed hard in the Q&A, the answer was short and sweet, "Post Launch"

So that is at least a partial answer but why not say, it does not work at all, it works like in beta right now? Why can we not get a current status? I mean telling me "official" support will come post launch is cool tells me it is being worked on. This vague and quick answer that tells little to nothing however scares me a bit.

What I am guessing is that they took the easy way out to create the UI... they have a huge graphic the size of the resolution supported with the borders of each UI box and the game simply places the appropriate text in the correct location to appear in the box. This requires a new graphic overlay for every resolution.

The other way is to have each UI border it's own graphic (like most MMO's with movable UI elements) which would mean all they would have to do was to change a few numbers to line up the correct UI position on the screen.

The screen overlay method is not exactly hard but they would have to allocate a graphics artist to create the two versions (Ultrawide comes in two resolutions) Something that might only take a few hours but in crunch time I'm sure they are doing other things.

So support is pretty bad but you can work around it. The Background creation system is boinked and you need to use a standard resolution to make it work right. On my 3440x1440 monitor the game play works and the resolution is seen but the interface is not scaling and it is way to big. Game looks much better at 2560x1440.

Playing with black bars for now and hoping for a fix soon. This game would be AWESOME with proper 21:9 scaling.

Nice cheat on your backers, HBS...well done.

A game needs to be designed from scratch to be mod friendly. Until the modders take a look at this game, we'll not know if it was locked down to prevent easy mod access.

Why lock a game down? To allow for dlc sales. Usually the free mod content is better than what dlc they could put out so devs lock the game down to try and prevent people from modding it. It's a short sighted money grab because an easily modded game can last years... Well beyond the normal shelf life of a game.

The same goes for 21:9 support. If they keep the files that support the UI open and available then it would be super easy for someone to add in support for non included resolutions. If all the files are encrypted then this game will prob end up being in the bargain bin a few months from now.

I sincerely hope I am wrong!

Yeah, 21:9 isn't working well for me. Half the buttons won't register that they're being clicked on (mostly on the bottom of the screen) and commander creation is nigh impossible.

It's a shame, because this would be amazing in 21:9.
