"It's probably all they can be sure of for the time being leading into release, and thus it might be all they can say right now."

No... They either designed it to have additional resolutions added or (as I said in a prior post) they purposely locked it to keep people from adding a resolution they feel might be unfair to pvp.

From what it sounds, 21:9 was an oversight (a big one lol) that can be fixed easily. Now I hope they had the forsight to just put the resolution numbers in a text file that can simply be edited.

This might as well read as a CTD bug with any particular hardware, the only difference is that this one should be a fairly easy fix.
[...]
And again, for all those quoting steam numbers, the only number that really matters is the number of BT backers/buyers that have 21:9 as their primary resolution.
[...]
1) A CTD makes the game unplayable. This bug will either just make some text larger and overlap (as repeated screenshots suggest) or force you to play at a smaller resolution. Neither is anywhere near as severe as a CTD.
2) Battletech fans come from all sorts of backgrounds. Don't think they are all heavy gamers. Steam statistics (and the other stats I quoted) speak to the commonality (or lack thereof) of the 21:9 resolution across the entire gaming community. We have no evidence that the Battletech community is a biased subset in this metric.

Lastly, you are blowing this way out of proportion - we don't even know it will be unplayable. There are more important things to worry about leading up to release; I know this because the devs have prioritized development of other things, and they aren't the type to randomly alienate a section of their user base (except quad lovers like me, but we like the abuse).

After release, I hope 21:9 support (and 4K support) comes. Let's not have a buggy release just because a small group of players have some uncommon hardware.

I can't speak for the devs - but it's almost certainly not for pvp balance reasons. A 21:9 monitor would not give you any advantage in this kind of game.... usually those concerns are limited to RTS games and maybe MOBAs

It is not so surprising that a game like this will, at least in the beginning, have limited official support when it comes to resolution. From what I saw so far, the game is quite UI heavy and the development team does not seem to be the largest. Need to spend resources where it is the most efficient.

Making everything scale and move perfectly, with multiple supported platforms, for all kinds of resolutions and aspect ratios is no easy task, especially if the market share of people with more exotic resolutions is so very small.

On the other hand, games published by PDX are known for catering to deviant minorities like linux gamers. Perhaps if the demand seems high they will patch it up soon after release.

How are games like Stellaris, EU4 and Hoi4 when it comes to those more exotic resolutions? Any problems with UI there?

Lurker here who wouldn't normally post but this is an issue for me because I'm one of the apparent small number of customers not worth the time supporting.

First observation; These devs seem to make single announcements and then disappear.

"We do not support 21:9"
Does that mean you never will ever?

I have pre-ordered the game so I'm supporting both the devs AND the community by contributing to the "in success" statement that the community is hinging on for this game for other features removed (and not clarified if they will be added back or not) and possible expansions in the future.
For the people who have a supported resolution, that's great for you and I'm happy, but for the percentage of you that seem to argue that 21:9 is a minority and get over it and are even happy that it isn't, that is a fairly narrow view and not a way to help a community grow especially before a game is even out.

I've bought the game and therefore directly supporting you all by being a part of the community so in return how about some support back and give a thumbs up for 21:9 support.

I'll try the game out and if in the battles it's fine then high chance I'll keep it, unless the UI in the other areas is so broken the game is unplayable, then I would refund it, all because it doesn't include support for something that it actually really should.

I would like some response from the makers of the game about the support going forward.
Is it no never ever?
Or yes eventually?
It's a real shame that I shouldn't hold my breath for a response.

Thanks.

It is not that surprising not worrying. They can safely say that something is not currently supported.

They cannot make any promises about future features without having some meetings first and someone at a higher place making a decision, possibly after someone else doing a bit of testing to estimate how much work would go into the feature.

Hopefully they extend the support in the end or give some guidelines on how to make it work even if it won't be officially supported.

Stellaris is beautiful at 7680x1440 ! Steel Division: Normandy also very enjoyable.

That does look nice. Perhaps not as useful in Stellaris with its round galaxy and round systems... but I can just imagine how much easier would two front war be in HOI4 or EU4. :D

It's funny I have seen these same arguments pop up for decades. Who remembers the 16.9 vs 4.3, or the system ram, or the VRAM arguments that pop up. I remember a time when supporting a video card or the heracy of requiring one was seen as outlandish.

Support for new tech is what drives the industry as a whole. We all benefit from new tech being adopted. There is no reason for this be ignored. I understand they may not have the resources to do it now, but it should be done.

There is no reason for this be ignored.

I agree with that, but the person in charge of that aspect of the game's development might not. We do not know how hard coded some of the UI stuff is. If it is closely tied to 16:9 aspect ratio they may be more likely to decide that it is not worth the trouble to bring official support.

At the same time it is not yet clear how bright a future awaits this aspect ratio. So far it seems that future within the lifetime of the game moves in 1440p and 4k direction. The numbers seen in steam survey are very low and in the end it might be a business decision.

I submitted the future 21:9 support for tomorrow's dev Q&A. Hopefully, we'll have an answer by then.

Is there any way how to vote for questions?

Not a vote persay..but if you went to the question and gave it a green check "agree" ( lower right of post)...maybe that may help. It would seem to me that a lot of agrees would indicate a high interest in the topic.

I doesn't hurt, but keep in mind the Devs rightfully aren't influenced by Bandwagoning and as I said earlier, may not even be ready to think about tackling additional resolutions before release is handled, and thus may or may not be ready to answer that question.
It might surprise some to find out that there are actually people on the internet that create multiple accounts to try to draw attention to their opinions. Shocking, and against the rules.

Far more useful to share constructive respectful feedback regarding feature requests for them, they do read such after all.

This type of decision making has a couple of problems. 1) 21-9 makes up a higher percent than 4K. 2) one of the biggest entry barriers to 21-9 is the lack of support. So it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. 3) The people with advanced hardware tend to have more money and are more willing to spend on things like DLCs. 4) going back to steams own statistics the gtx1060 has the highest portion of users. A wide screen 1080 res can be powered by that card were as a 1440p can't comfortably. It makes more sense to do a little extra work and ride the new wave of wides coming out this year.

Nobody is suggesting band-wagoning.... nobody is suggesting they fix it before release either....

I think telling a fellow user to use ACTUAL FORUM FEATURES that he may not be aware of *is* respectful feedback....more then just "No." IMHO.

It's probably all they can be sure of for the time being leading into release, and thus it might be all they can say right now.

I don't doubt it sir.

And if it at all helps I think everyone empathizes with the human element.

Thanks sir, and I am both worked up, and don't want to cry too loudly. I have been waiting for this game for years, just like everyone else, and I want to be just perfect, and just for ME! LOL.

Anyways, the hype is real, and I can't wait for it either way, and I just hope HBS can get full monitor support soon.

Nobody is suggesting band-wagoning.... nobody is suggesting they fix it before release either....

I think telling a fellow user to use ACTUAL FORUM FEATURES that he may not be aware of *is* respectful feedback....more then just "No." IMHO.

I need to be able to share general things when their tangents come up in discussion so that they do not become issues. If it isn't relevant to individuals, then its not intended for those individuals. Experience tells us to do this even if there's only a miniscule chance that someone reading will get such an idea. Its always ok and welcome to PM me if anyone ever needs clarification with anything I write.

As for the topic, I can repeat, I'm personally For the implementation at the earliest point. But I am not a Dev, and we don't know enough to be able to expect anything more than what they have shared so far. My posts are to remind all of this as we discuss. As I mentioned in an earlier post so that people who use this res and are reading are informed, in case they need to wait to purchase, or seek a refund, and not to be accidentally overly optimistic without reason and later disappointed by that.

Understood. But when my message is quoted, I interpret that as you speaking more to me instead of to the forum. Had you said the exact same thing (but without my quote) then I'd have not thought twice about it.
