I have bought my copy of Battletech last week, installed it and just then discovered that there is no ultrawide support at all. Unfortunately I bought the game on Amazon so I'm not able to get a refund. That's my mistake obviously, I should have done my research before getting it but at this point I thought that every major release (unless you're Blizzard) will work on ultrawides.
Almost immediately after discovering that I have sent an email to the support and asked them if they are working on fix. Only thing I got back from them is automated reply. I agree that's about time for status update on 21:9 support.

The sad part is the game is amazing and would be even more so with proper 21:9 aspet support to give us move visable area to work with.

A modern game without full support of of resolution and aspect ratio scaling as well as UI rescaling and FOV settings, just feels unfinished.

Yeah i'm also a little bit dissapointed but when you look at the Steam Hardware Survey only ~1% have a Ultrawide Display connected. So i can live with it, i could also complain that most Games don't take full usage of my 1080 Ti. Would be a little pathetic in my opinion.

Interesting, however adding fully support for your graphics card is not something that is a featureset standardized across the gaming industry. MOST games have some level of resolution and apsect ratio scaling. Many games have UI size settings and a ton of them have FOV settings. Your point it about the horsepower the game needs. Our point is about features that are supported in most cases.

I would be amazed if this hasn't already been brought up in the twenty pages of thread before me, but since you're calling this a feature, please could you describe a current or planned feature that you'd be happy to cut in favour of 21:9 resolution? It really isn't reasonable to expect HBS to do everything, after all. They have finite time and resources.

Assuming you managed to pick something, do more than half of BattleTech players agree with your choice?

"Most games do it" isn't actually a justification for including something.

They said it was coming post release but than added this small statement
  • We have no timeline for expanded aspect ratio support at the moment.
It is the biggest issue discussed on Kickstarter, on these forums, on Steam, Gog etc.) so the only reason they said 'yeah we'll add it soon' was a move to try to stifle the associated PR backlash. I mean they knew about the issue last year during the beta bug reports and ignored it so I wouldn't hold my breath...
^^^Not surprised no update on progress yet, PR move to stifle backlash and it's ignored again like it was during last years beta. Look at their roadmap do you see anything at all relating to this, NOPE. Out of sight, Out of mind!!!

Or, theres no "new"news because there's no new news.

They said recent they'd add additional resolutions to the supported list post launch. When they do, they'll announce it. There are other items in that queue too. Waiting may not be fun, but it is a significant part of life.

As for during beta, it was "not supported, we'll see". That's not ignoring it, that's being up front with bad news.

I feel obliged to post here again because I told you today that I only got automated reply from support. I just got a real response few minutes ago, I hope "support guy" won't mind that I post part of his message here:
"Thanks for reaching out. We do intend to add ultrawide support soon and are investigating the best way to go about it. We appreciate your patience during this busy time."

No details but at least we know that they are actively working on it.

Hi GUmby

They literally said it in a pre-release Dev video.
Which is why it has been referenced multiple times since in conversation, even in this very thread.

Feel free to dig for it at your leisure.

FYI, combativeness doesnt inspire people to assist you nor will it speed up resolution offerings.

The queue is of things they're working on for the game. Stuff that affects everyone usually comes first in the line.

Also, them saying they will add it but have no timetable to announce for when it will be done makes perfect sense when you don't know how long it will take to solve the issue.

Just for the record, aside from booting up and being disappointed about non 21:9 support, I have not played a single minute of this game, and am waiting for the fix to go through before I fire it up again. I'm tremendously disappointed in the lack of overall support for 21:9 shown here, but am still willing to wait.

Thats really a shame becuase dispite not supporting 21:9 the game is great. Playing wth black bars at the side has not really taken away from the game.

Okay so with the info coming out of Computex I think it might be time for HBS to publically acknowledge this aspect ratio and give us some kind of time line. More of the "gaming" hardware companies are jumping into 21:9 and beyond, something a fad trend would not see happen.

At this point, LG, Samsung, BenQ, Asus, Viewsonic, AOC, Philips and others are all marketing 21:9 monitors and most of them are being marketed toward the PC Gaming public. Now at Computex we see Asus join Philips and LG with marketing 49" 32x9 aspect monitors, again with a focus on gamers.

These ultrawide aspect ratios are seeing a bigger push at gaming that 4K and from what the companies are saying look to be the future of gaming displays. AMD has even been pushing ultrawide at many of thier events, partnering with Samsung to show off their 32x9 solution.

As of now HBS has stated it is being looked at but any questions about ultrawide support have been brushed aside with minimal response. As this market grows for any company to ignore it is just daft. Especially I game like Battletech which would thrive and excel with the option for wider displays to show the player more of the battlefield.

PLEASE HBS can we have a serious official post on this. One the explains why this was not supported at launch, why this is taking so much time to impliment and what the current plan is. Being honest and open with your community will create a few that will scream and yell but the majority of us will repect you even more.

Did this really need another thread?

Developing for ultrawide is an investment of time and resources. Even answering questions in a rigorous fashion is an investment of time and resources. HBS is a small studio with a limited amount of each. Just sit back and relax. I'm sure your patience will be appreciated.

I think there are already committed goals where some users are waiting for - Let's say Linux support.

Patience is a difficult thing - yes. But we have a game and we can play - right?

Changing the game to use ultrawide mode is not just a 5 minute job. They have to change things, test it, look for problems and keep this cycle going until they think they have a working solution.

Maybe they should have done that before release? You could play in 21:9 at launch, then they disabled it because of all the issues (which they were already aware of since the beta). So I guess they didn't test it?
