Ok, I quiet liked your map, Jon! Good work with it. I know it is WIP, but I noticed a little issue: near the Azores (I assume it was these) there is a green dot that seems connected to Ethiopia. But, for the actual duchies, it very hard to comment, as the provinces are based off with important cities in mind, and not the administrative departements. I do however fully understand why you did it like that. But it makes it hard for me to comment on the duchies. Ideally, they would be based upon this:

carte-france-region.gif

but that might be hard to achieve with how the provinces are. Also, I do not know if there are any other variations except the fact that there are monarchies everywhere in terms of "historicity/setup" compared to IRL.

This was not really useful feedback, I'm afraid. :p I will however, look a bit more into those cultures and come back .

Well, I don't really have much knowledge about moding but I could easily write the history of the Israeli Prime Ministers and have some suggestions for governors of different areas in Israel- probably also history of mayors of the different cities (and baronies and temples). However, I don't really know how to mod it.

Characters are easy to grasp:

A character needs an id. For the Israeli I parcelled out the id (number) range of 100098000 to 100098999. A character's id needs to be unique. That's all there is to it.

A first character could look like this:

Code:
100098000 = {
	name=Bibi
	dynasty=123
	religion=judaism
	culture=israeli
	father=[OTHER CHARACTER'S ID]
	1900={birth=yes}
	2050.1.1={death=yes}
}

To link characters you need to define mother and/or father with the correct id. Traits can be added by adding. "add_trait=TRAITNAME". Base character stat by using diplomacy=NUMBER, martial=NUMBER, etc.
It's easiest to just look at pre-existing characters and copy from that.
http://www.ckiiwiki.com/Character_modding

To make use of the character you just need to go to a title in history/titles and assign it there:

2010.1.1 = { holder=100098000 }

voilá, Bibi is holder of that title starting in 2010

@loup99
I'd have no problem with renaming/redrawing provinces. Just tell me if there's something that particularly irks you (aside of Alsace :p).

Should there be an event about the Malasyan plane? Like if they find the black box and the debris, just for the sake of, also, Ukraine, how would the civil war be handled?

EDIT: Forgot to add, will you add a claim to the Romanian king from Moldavia? Or will unification be handled by events?

Ukraine should be handled where rebels spawn up in different provinces depending on an event you receive if you want to trade with the west or east and depending on what you pick where they spawn?

For me the start date and the absolute consistency is not set in stone. We are already far in ALT reality to have feudal monarchs around that hold some degree of power (even if the permanent incabability, needs to have a regent at all times idea sounds very intriguing).
If a country's ruler can't by any means be a feudal monarch (because there never has been one for that region, etc.) I'd be for the best suited ruler of the last few years. The current Polish prime minister is Ewa Kopacz, a divorced lady with a doctor-daughter. Maybe, maybe it would be neater to have Donald Tusk, who's now the the President of the European Council or Bronisław Komorowski, the president, who is part of Polish nobility and even has a COA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Komorowski_(Korczak). And no I don't try to be sexist here :p
That being said: If Herzog (or whoever is the oppisition leader) wins he can as well be king of Israel. I will not, however, give him the first name "Isaac" as all the English press seems to do. Yitzhak all the way (or maybe even Yitzchak) !!1!

the king of Saudi should presumably also be changed?
Abdullah died later in January, the mods only starting point takes place before his death. I think the same would go for any other changes in leadership over the year.

Saudi Arabia is a monarchy with a weird, hard to CK2ify succession regulation. Depending on the date a Saud will rule. On 2015.1.1 (obviously) the one that is dead now.

Ukraine should be handled where rebels spawn up in different provinces depending on an event you receive if you want to trade with the west or east and depending on what you pick where they spawn?
Also depends on the date. Now, presumably, the rebels have a firm grasp on their lands. For the whole revolution to start the mod would need to start earlier. Which would make sense if the people can be found that can code the rise of ISIS and the rise of Russian nationalists in Ukraine.

Should there be an event about the Malasyan plane? Like if they find the black box and the debris, just for the sake of, also, Ukraine, how would the civil war be handled?

EDIT: Forgot to add, will you add a claim to the Romanian king from Moldavia? Or will unification be handled by events?

Technically the Romanian king doesn't really need a claim. He can just de jure war them to death. But that's not really satisfying, right?
If I changed them to a duchy they would even be likely to join peacefully. I am thinking of some de jure subjugation casus belli with which you can integrate a region of your culture and religion without displacing the old rulers. Or an elaborate event series that has Moldova join peacefully. If someone want to code this please, by any means, go ahead ;)

It will be useful to try to set in stone what happened in this timeline to decide what is "canon" and what is not.

For example second this page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_pretenders#Europe

the current pretender of the Crown of Poland is this guy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_pretenders#Europe

For Russia is more fun to see Putin as ruler really that a Romanov this could be explained in this timeline as a sort of "Revolutionary Empire" a-la-Napoleon (Russia after the dissolution of U.R.S.S. become a Democratic Republic but Putin continued to be elected until a referendum put him as President-for-life and then as Zar).

The idea of incapable Monarch with a Republic as vassal to simulate Constitutional Monarchies is an idea that would be interesting to explore IMHO.

The Polish thing is VERY shaky. It was an elective monarchy which had many dynasties in power and as cziken could tell you the Polish kingdom has been defunct for quite some time.

As a matter of fact I've set up one of my trusted SVN repositories. Mostly to help me with the task to have Adriano's characters, vanilla characters and my characters work alongside but also in case someone wants to contribute something to the code base:
https://www.assembla.com/code/europe-mod/subversion/nodes

So that'll be my preferred way to do it!

I'll gladly write down some explanation for SVN-newbies in case someone wants to use it :)

Quick question: Who would you guys want to see as the ruler of Hungary?

1) Viktor Orbán, the current prime minister, a rather dictatorial fella
2.1) A descendant of the second-to-last Habsburg Palatine of Hungary: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archduke_Joseph,_Palatine_of_Hungary. Maybe this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archduke_Josef_Arpád_of_Austria
2.2) Some other Habsburg, maybe a different son of Austria's (actual) last emperor Karl I.
3) Miklós Horthy - in a turn of events - decided to go from regent to king and now his descendants sit on the throne. Funny, his oldest grandson converted to Islam some decades ago. If I go down this road I'd give him sympathies for Islam at most.
