2000 Club

[Palmerdale]

It may not be much compared to some old-timers, but I recently reached 2000 hours of play time according to Steam. This game still grabs me more than most other Paradox games.

Current Campaign: Italy, going after UK early and hard(ish). Just about finished with the Middle East/Iraq and setting up to invade England. Only playing about 2 months a day these days.

I dont have a steam version so I cant tell exactly.
I do play the game since 2009 if memory serves me right.

Likewise, no Steam account, but I've got to be way over the 2000 hour mark since only a few weeks after the game was released. Still playing on a semi-regular basis, as in one or two campaigns a year. Depending on which country I play and whether I'm at war or not, I can burn through 6 months to a year in a sitting, or just one or two weeks of intense activity in that same amount of real time.

I would like to mention that part of the ongoing attraction for me have and has been the mod section.
Specially BICE with its submods UTR TRE and GGA have contributed a great way to the extended playability for me.

BICE has recently with the update to the version 10.2 adopted some further game depth and difficulty levels.

I understand that this is not everyones cup of tea.
But if you, for whatever reason, start to think the base game is boring or repetitive you should probably give it a try.

Italy is a great campaign. So many options. What war goals have you set? In my last Italy campaign I set goals for territory in the MED, ME and Africa. Didnt do the conquer one because that Japan had already done so. I then invaded and took over their home islands. I got my acquire territory goals but a truce was declared and the UK still had the home islands and some of its overseas territories. Bizarre.

Bizarre.

Not so bizarre. That's more like the outcome of many wars before the 20th Century, where you fight over some specific piece of turf, and after the war is over, both sides go on with life. Taking over countries entirely was likely the exception, not the rule. Of course, in modern "paint the map" wargaming, it may very well be bizarre.

I'm not sure why I can't find it now, or why all posts past page 6 are absent although the forum says there are 1,800 pages worth of threads, but I believe it was incognito who played a world conquest as Switzerland. He had to make a custom game to bypass neutrality, but it was rather straightforward after that, as he had tanks in infantry armies that eventually became heavy tanks through upgrade, starting all the way from cavalry. Try it out.
