1. It's about 1630 in my game and from some time I cannot force-annex any country, even small one-provinced minors. I take over all of their provinces, have 100% in the victory screen and there is no 'annex' option. What can be the deal ?
(Tried many times, on different nations, even pagan)
My BB is 37 and I play with Poland.

2. Is there any way to release one provice ? The think is that I wanted to take one province from another nation, they kept rejecting the peace offer but in the mean time they were offering me 2 provinces including the one I wanted (!). So having no other way to get it - I accepted and now I have one extra, completely useless province that is rebbeled, far away from my motherland and I simply don't want it.
I looked in the 'create vassal' screen, but unfortunately there was noone to give the province to...
BTW. Where can I hand-edit the possibility of creating a vassal from a certain province ? Is it hard-coded ?

What patch version are you running? The only thing I can think of that would make the annex option not available would be if you were running with the 'forced annexation' option set to 'no'. BTW the usual way to conquer countries while minimizing the BB hit is to force-vassalize and diplo-annex (if your religion is compatible).

Countries that can be released as vassals are defined in db\revolt.txt (some info also comes from db\country.csv).

EDIT: slow post because I went to test it ingame while posting. :)

To release country without one or more provinces you need to lose control over these provinces to enemy (in war or to rebels). It was really easy in times when checking religious tolerance window generate revolt check :), still easy nowadays, you just need to move sliders a little

You can get rid of a single province you don't want by editing the save game file. Simply remove the province from the list of controlled provinces for your country. You will have to find the province's number. The easiest way to accomplish this is to click on the province and then click on its religious house, bringing up the information screen about the province. At the top will be the name of the city for that province. Search the save file for that city name; the name will be in a paragraph of information that includes the province number. You need to delete the paragraph, then delete the province number from the list of controlled provinces and the list of owned provinces, which you will find just before the paragraphs about the provinces start. Save the changes, then reload the game. :)

Who will gain control of it?

If you assign it to no other country, no one gets control of it. It can then be colonized.

To assign it to another country, cut and paste the province information paragraph into the country to which you wish it assigned, and add that province number to the list of owned provinces. Then put the number in the list of controlled provinces for either the country owning it, or, if you prefer, in the list of provinces controlled by some other "country", which would include rebels, if you would like. :D
