Hello,

I had finally reached the point where playing majors against AI is a bit too easy and wanted to try playing with a friend in a versus style game.

We would like to include UK as one of the players. Maybe someone with experience in MP could offer a solution to below points:
1) What would be a good counterpart to play against UK?
2) Any basic ruleset or goal to include for both players?

We previously (around 1.5) played a 2v1 Fra+UK vs Germany with only rule being ww2 starts with Danzig or War and we reached a noobish stalemate:

Building enough tanks to go east, Germany cannot defeat Allied airpower and even starting Royal Navy,
while on the other hand UK cannot realistically invade mainland Europe and push due to disparity in land strength. After capitulating France and a few failed invasions both ways we didn't know what to do anymore and dissolved the game. Obviously France took until almost 1941 and I lost droves more men and tanks than if going against AI.

For sure perfect balance 1v1 is impossible, I don't mind playing a somehow uneven game as long as there is a point to it, however "Ger gets London OR UK gets Berlin" does not cut it.

Germany should be much stronger than UK alone, but Italy on the other hand is just a glorified minor.

I look forward to some suggestions.

You wouldn't have to make this decision if they gave the option for one player to play an entire faction. It would be slow but you could eliminate the AI messing up your game all of the time. I would give anything for this to be an option in this game. The AI will NEVER be good enough to challenge a decent player. And that is not a slam on the developers. AI is really tough to program for a game this complex. However, not giving players a good option to substitute the AI is this games biggest flaw. And please don't tell me about multiplayer. It is almost impossible to get a good multiplayer game to even control the major countries.

One option is to have one player play as Germany and the other play as the UK... but use the console to switch over to France during Fall Gelb and Russia during Barbarossa. You let the AI do the build up. But then as a human do the battling since that is where the largest weakness is for the AI. Play as the UK at all other times since they can be active in all theaters of the war. Finally you can switch over to the USA once they have built up enough. If you have a third computer and another copy of the game you can have the UK player doing two countries at the same time. This is what I do.
