Description: When I try to give a viceroyalty title (duchy or kingdom) as the Byzantine emperor, the title turns automatically into an inheritable duchy. This happened when the old exarch of Croatia and Serbia died, his heir became the despot after I granted the titles back as viceroyalties. This also happens when it is a new title. I holy warred an Egyptian rebellion for the duchy of Aswan, found a landless member of my dynasty, gave out all the county titles and tried to give him a viceroyalty duchy title, but instead of becoming a strategos, he is a doux now.

DLCs: Charlemagne, Horse Lords, Legacy of Rome, Rajas of India, Ruler Designer, Sunset Invasion, The Old Gods, The Republic, The Sword of Islam, Way of Life, many unit packs and portraits.

Mods: no mods, this is an Ironman game, so I cannot reload to show a screenshot.

Reproduction steps: Start the save, try to give a viceroyalty title (duchy of Sicily or Thrace) in my personal demesne to someone, it will turn into an inheritable duchy.

I am trying to restore the Roman Empire to its rightful borders, please help :).

I loaded up your save and it seems to be working for me when tested in our internal version. Are you sure that you grant the title with the action "Grant Viceroyalty"? And not "Grant Landed Title"?

Are you giving the title to a specific character that seems to be having the issue? Or does it happen when you grant it to anyone?

I am sure I used Grant Viceroyalty, I was unsure for the first issue, with the son of the former Exarch who turned into a Despot, and that is why I tested it out on the newly conquered duchy of Aswan where I got a Doux instead of a Strategos.

I do not know how to replicate the issue as I am in ironman, the first title (Croatia and Serbia) was given to an existing count, the second title (Aswan) to a formerly unlanded member of my dynasty.

I am encountering the same issue (at least for granting kingdom-level viceroyalty). When I attempt to grant viceroalties, rather than creating a viceroy, it creates a king. Note that in one case the character I attempt to grant the viceroyalty to is already a duke, while in the other case the character is already a minor viceroy. The problem occurs in both cases.

This issue only appeared with version 2.7, which is what I am now running. DLCs running are Charlemagne, Horse Lords, Legacy of Rome, Rajas of India, Sons of Abraham, The Old Gods, The Republic, The Sword of Islam, Way of Life, and many unit packs, portraits, and songs. I am not running any mods. This is not in ironman, so can replicate as much as needed.

I have included screenshots showing my character (should be listed as heir to viceroyalties), and two separate attempts to grant kindgom viceroyalties as well as their outcomes.

I have the same issue. (The duchy viceroyalties work fine, Kingdoms don't)

Interesting. I had only been trying with kingdom viceroyalties, but I just tested and found that I encountered the same problem with ducal viceroyalties (should have made the earl I granted it to a minor viceroy with my character as heir to the ducal title, but instead it made him a duke with his son as heir to the title).

Cheers for the additional information. I was able to reproduce it now by using the "Include Lower Titles" option. I'll file a bug report of the issue right away.
