Playing the 1066 scenario. Everything went well with this war until I asked the Scots to join. When they took over the provinces in England I was unable to enforce my demands. Or any of the other options for that matter.
Eventually I got two more of those reasons I can't just with other characters. Time have gone by since then and I fear I'm stuck in an never ending war unless leaders and land change so much it annuls itself.

If it is an ally, it is held for you. The reason in this case is because Brittany controls holdings. An ally is not a third party, a third party is an additional realm in a war against them.

Not any more. I was allied to the Scots (King Konan) who sieged the province to the upper right of Oxford

The war eventually ended itself, luckily.
