I noticed this as Asturias - twice the Sultan declared war on me without me getting the war declaration event. Suddenly I was just at war with him - in both instances I was already fighting off one of his vassals.

Was this a new war or was it the same war, where the liege offered to join the war. If it is the later case you wouldn't get a war event, you would only get a notification about a called in ally.
Different war targets - I was at war with both liege and vassal for different targets.
