Description: After demobilising after a war, my retinue forces are stuck, and won't move when I tell them to. I tried raising some 'normal' forces, and when they merged together, the larger force also wouldn't move. After saving and reloading, though, it would move (so I can't really reproduced it for you, although the save is attached). Presume it's not WAD :).
DLC's: All major DLCs and at least the vast majority of the rest.
Mods: I do not currently use any mods.

Reproduction Steps:
1. Start the game
2. Load the game with Eadric III of England
3. The stubborn army (which is a retinue force) was the 480-odd sized unit in Norfolk.

Observe: Nothing, because it works again when re-loading, but I promise I'm not posting this because I'd rather post bug reports than play CK2 :).

Hey !

Could be cool to have to additional info about what was happening when you had the issue :
  • Version of the game when the issue happened
  • Version of the game when you started the game (if different)
  • Was the retinue properly behaving during the war ?
  • What was the retinue doing when the war ended ? (fighting, moving, idle, doing a BBQ...)
  • How did the war end ? (enforce demands, surrender, white peace, CB no longer valid...)
  • Was the retinue merged with levies and/or mercenaries and/or Holy Orders when the war ended ?
We're currently having issues reading your save, which is tagged as broken, but since problem disappeared after reload, I don't think it would have been very "talkative" anyway ; so if we could just identify everything you did with your retinue when the issue appeared, we might be able to repro from scratch.

Hey !

A good question! Sorry, issue happened with 2.6.2, but....

Version of the game when you started the game (if different)

Whatever was immediately before 2.6.2 (I started the game on the weekend I think, definitely not before Saturday AM, and no mods at any time, with Steam and online at all times, so shouldn't be any weird offline versioning things going on).

Was the retinue properly behaving during the war ?

They behaved very well - I would have bought them all virtual beers at the end of it :).

What was the retinue doing when the war ended ? (fighting, moving, idle, doing a BBQ...)

Just wrapped up a siege in the province it got stuck in.

How did the war end ? (enforce demands, surrender, white peace, CB no longer valid...)

Enforced demands, which lead to the end of the dynasty it was enforced on (as far as I could tell).

Was the retinue merged with levies and/or mercenaries and/or Holy Orders when the war ended ?

It was merged with normal levies, but no mercs or holy orders.

Other info - I was actually the Kingdom of Wessex when the war ended and the levy got stuck, but changed to the Kingdom of England straight afterwards. When I changed, the flag on the retinue stayed as Wessex - so I raised an English levy, marched it over to the Wessex retinue, and merged them. After they didn't move and I'd de-merged them, it had an English flag.

Arthur

Sorry about this - I made a copy of my ironman save, and renamed it, not sure if this would break it or not but apologies if answer yes.

Good luck with it and the other bugs :)

OK so, if you were on the normal version of the game (not any beta branch), then you started the game on 2.6.1, and bug happened on 2.6.2, as you stated.

From what you described, the culprit may have been the fact that when you switched from Wessex to England, your retinue didn't "get the memo" and stayed tagged as Wessexians (Wessexites ? I dunno...) instead of becoming "English", as noticeable by their flag not updating.

Following the flow you've described, we haven't been able to reproduce the issue from a fresh 2.6.2 game (retinue properly updates flag and is controllable no problem), and since the problem solved itself for you after a reload, I'm guessing it was a very punctual incident, maybe caused by obsolescence of 2.6.1 files ? Not sure about that.

Anyway, thanks for the headsup, we'll keep an eye out on that ; and if you ever have this issue pop again, don't hesitate to bump the thread.

Arthur

It was definitely a "pre-change to England" thing (and not a beta branch) - I did the change while I was letting time tick over a bit, in case the retinue would wake up by itself. That said, it could well have been something funny that went on with the change between versions (although I had used the retinue in other wars post-shift to 2.6.2 without any trouble). As you say, the reload fixed it, so it's not an issue at my end, but thought it best to let you know in case there were some instances of things going awry behind the scenes that this might be a reflection of (particularly if there was a risk of it freezing in a way that wouldn't be resolvable with loading - although I've got no idea if this is a risk or not). Fingers crossed it's 2.6.1 to 2.6.2 thing, and doesn't pop up again in the future. If I see it again, I'll deffo bump with whatever has happened :).

Had it happen again, save attached. Just like last time, though, it was fine on re-load (but prior to "Save & Quit" and "reload" it wouldn't budge. I'd just split the army in two, and went to select the army I wanted to move, and it wouldn't - the other one would move fine. The army that was immobile prior to re-loading is in Nofant (the army on the move away from the area is the half of that army that was more cooperative :)).

Aww man, I did not want to read that : /

We've got your savegame (it works fine this time, so cool) and tried to reproduce but haven't had any luck this time either.

We've made a ticket about it with your savegame attached and some information, but as long as we can't reproduce the issue here at the office, the chances of closing the issue are thinner, I won't lie. Our glorious progs might find something by looking at the data, though. We'll keep an eye out anyway.

Sorry, not trying to cause trouble. Touch wood, it's some weird artifact of a game going from 2.6.1 over to 2.6.2, so won't happen again and won't crop up. It's not a big issue for me, reloading is pretty straightforward (and I do a little modding, so I'm very comfortable reloading :)), and hopefully if it does pop up anywhere else it doesn't cause confusion. I won't report any more instances (unless you advise otherwise) but if it pops up again if there's anything I can do to help, just say the word. Happy bug smashing :).

As a FYI I had this happen to me on a natural 2.6.2 game just the other day. I thought it was weird but did not keep a save. I was the Byz Emperor and had just concluded a war with Lombardy, the retinues I had clicked to move to Mantua and upon arrival I made peace and they were immoveable. If it happens again I'll post a save and give any info you want. I did get around it by creating new armies with my retinues splitting them up into their individual units and they were able to move. Unfortunately as I said, no save, but if/when it happens again I'll let you know.
