Hello

I managed to get Empire of the Sun with the Zunbil dynasty in my Ironman game, holy warred my way through India with successive rulers, then expelled Knights of the Sun, and converted to Hinduism when I held all of De Jure India (after holy warring the High Priest for his Multan holdings). As a result I got Samrat Chakravartin with my current ruler. However I'm unable to arrange marriages for any of my children or courtiers. I'm casteless and so are my children as well as my extended family. I was hoping to avoid becoming kshatriya as I hold a few cities in my desmesne and I understand I'll hit a penalty for holding them. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I'm hoping to get Red Sea Resort, British Raj etc with this game.

Thanks

Sounds like a problem with your lack of caste. Do all your children/courtiers also have no caste? If so try inviting someone with a caste and see if you can arrange a marriage for them, either within your court or externally. Let us know how you get on. :)

Also, I generally don't think holding cities in my demesne is worthwhile given the penalty on taxes/troops you get. I generally think better to hold more counties overall to increase taxes or more baronies in my capital holding to increase troops.

Hey, thanks for the reply, so I tried this, I have both a Brahmin and a Kshatriya caste male courtiers in my court now, but I can't arrange a marriage with any of my daughters (casteless) :(

I don't have the cash to go Kshatriya myself, but I may need to do it to force the issue. It's really annoying at the moment, as my ruler is soon to die as he's 58 and I don't have a good heir yet.

Sounds like that's going to have to be the way forward if you want to stay Hindu. Maybe wait for your next ruler to change though? If you change now it would only affect your new children, as far as I know, so you would probably be better waiting until your next ruler, given that your current children will probably be the ones to inherit.

Dang, OK will try that. Annoying though, and seems ahistoric - if you don't have a caste you'd be seen as an untouchable, but untouchables should be able to marry other casteless characters. I can see a lot of vassals in the realm who have the same issue and can't get married by the looks of it, they're only producing heirs through the seduction focus.

I'm sure casteless used to be able to marry another caste, but with big penalties. Another thing I noticed is that mixed-caste marriages don't have opinion penalties anymore, I know they removed spouses having a negative opinion of a different caste spouse in some patch, but I don't know if the removal of all negative opinion penalties is a bug or intentional, Paradox? anyone?

I'm also sure opinion penalties for a wrong caste holding incorrect holdings used to be a thing, seems strange that the characters don't even care anymore .

Well when I click the rings icon on my kids pages there are no eligible spouses listed, it's completely blank. Some of my daughters have been targeted by seduction attempts so I have bastards, just no way to marry my sons or daughters off!

Hmmmm, I've definitely broken something somehow. The save still shows as ironman compatible but I just converted to Buddhism and got my kids to convert too. I can now give my sons land as caste isn't an issue. However can't see any spouses available when I hit the rings. Can't see any independent Buddhist realms so maybe there are no suitable courtiers, I will try generating some and see if I can finally get my kids married off.

Just in case someone runs into a similar issue, I reloaded an earlier save prior to the Samrat Chakravartin conversion and played through again. All going peachy but I ran into the same issue again, but I realised it occurred immediately after I expelled the Knights of the Sun, I then revoked the Grandmaster title. It looks like doing this (i.e. having a Holy Order title) stops you arranging marriages for yourself or anyone else. So the issue I encountered wasn't unique to Hinduism. Just posting here in case it helps someone in future. Thanks!

Don't remember how things work in 2.4.5 so bear that in mind. How about inviting some Dharmic debutantes to your court and directly marry them there to your heirs. Remember you can take concubines too.
