True. Usually I say it's in the year 1066, I forgot this time.

Just because the year is 1066 doesn't mean you started in 1066. Did you check title history?

Had something similar in my current game, the ERE moved the capital to a small province in Anatolia and made Constantinople (the castle with the theodosian walls) a minor vassal.
No civil war etc.

Again, did you check title history, to see if the empire title holder switched to the holder of the small province in Anatolia? No civil war doesn't mean no inheritance (most likely cause of the Papacy move from Rome would be election of the bishop of that province), or no faction demand that was caved in to (most likely cause of a move of the ERE capital without civil war).

Yup, three recent entries that make no sense. Current emperor switches to ecumenical patriarch switches back to current emperor. All three changes are without a reason (like faction demand, election or inheritance).
