I do not know if this is how the new system of assigning a capital holding is supposed to work. But...
- Play as a Merchant Republic.
- Holy war for some counties.
- Win.
- Examine one of the counties, and assign the barony as the capital.
- Grant the county to an unlanded courtier in your realm.
...
- The courtier will become a Lord Mayor, and the country capital will revert to the city, though they will retain the barony as one of their holdings (at least each time I've seen this happen).
I have only tested this as a Merchant Republic. I thought the point of being able to assign the capital holding was to avoid the cumbersome task of assigning someone the barony, and then assigning them the county, if you want to arrange your realm to your particular liking. The current way to force the county to align as you want it to is to assign the other holdings to other vassals (create a bishop and mayor) and *then* assign someone the county. While that is easier than the old method, its only marginally so.
Anyway, if this is WAD, I'd love to know. Its not terrible, and I could see there being some usefulness to this current system (if, for example, you're assigning those counties to actual patricians, who can hold both baronies and cities, it would make it easy to make sure the barony is the capital), but its not convenient for what I'm trying to do ATM.
