Ok I bought Horse Lords yesterday, and of course my game was automatically updated. I lost an ironman game but whatever, I had been getting bored/stuck in it anyway, so no biggie. However when I launch the game and enter the single player character selection screen, and then either back out, or resign from the game, the multiplayer button is greyed out. When I hover over it it informs me that my "Game State is corrupted." and I should "Restart the Game." Now I've done that of course and it continues to happen, I've even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game a few times, and of course verifying the cache. Has anyone else has this issue? I want to play the game, but I'm kinda worried my save game will be corrupted. Hope someone here knows what's wrong haha!

This is because the game changes its checksum when you resign, this is to stop issues with multiplayer. If you are joining a multiplayer game, you must restart the game. If you are just reloading a game after resigning, it shouldn't cause a problem. Doesn't mean it won't. Also I wouldn't start a new game after resigning as that will cause problems.

As Dracko said, every time you enter a game (or just enter into the lobby of a game) the checksum is changed. This is to prevent multiplayer issues. But to make it more safe, you are now requested to completely restart the game before being able to join a multiplayer game at all. The tooltip may not be ideal, as "corrupted" might be a misleading word, though.

Wait a minute...starting a new SINGLE PLAYER GAME after resigning causes problems???
