Are you sure they were event troops? I loaded up as the Mongol Empire and tried disbanding my armies and got the popup as expected. I tried several different scenarios, got the popup every time. If you got any more details as to when this might happen, that would be great. Thanks!

I get the pop-up too, any other way I try to disband them, but I don't get the pop-up when I open up the New Unit Panel, or the Reorganize Units Panel; you know, where you can divide a group up how you want into two separate units. This panel has recently changed, you used to have a button which would let you move an army from one side to the other, but now it is drag-and-drop. If I disband one of the armies from within this dialog they just go poof. And yes, they were most certainly event troops, as that was all I had in the stack.

I've done this more than once - it seems a rather poor UI design choice to replace a button with one functionality with a different, destructive function that doesn't even confirm the action...

(On a related note, I much preferred the old buttons - drag and drop is useful sometimes, but it takes longer and is less convenient for large armies)

I agree, I don't much like the new giggly drag and drop method, which wouldn't be so bad if it were just drag and drop, but with large armies swinging back in forth so wildly in the panel,it takes forever, especially with the fear that it will swing the disband button under my cursor click.

(though that might be itself a different bug)
