When loading a savegame where you have just won a battle and the enemy is retreating, you'll be treated to a series of "mini-battles" where your entire army faces against singular enemy units from the retreating army (where you will, naturally, win). Once one unit is destroyed, you'll face another one and so on until several enemy units have been destroyed. It doesn't seem to happen to every retreating unit, so it may only happen against units that still have morale left?
To reproduce this bug, fight and win a battle. While the enemy army is retreating, save the game and reload the save. Your army will start cutting down these "stragglers" and destroy them, unit by unit.
Edit: I should clarify that I've faced this bug under 2.32 as well, but never got around to actually testing it until now.
Edit 2: Ok, so I'm trying to reproduce it again, but it's not happening for some reason. It seems to be fairly random
