Started a game w/ a friend, he started as King of West France me as Umayyid. We basically got to where we could revoke titles and put a major in charge of a duchy (him gelre me grenada) and then saved game and reloaded as them to play as merchant republics.
My first succession worked fine although i did hold some castles as non primary counties but it never changed my title that i'm aware of and i never gave my son any castle titles (he has 2 counties with cities as capitals and i don't get wrong vassal type penalty from him)
Somehow my titles got horribly screwed up. I holy warred some christian land (tunis) and they all properly converted to showing cities as capitals. All the non city holdings I did create vassal and held onto the rest. I gave the two inland city counties to my heir at one point. My succession didn't show my heir as expected person which didn't bother me as it's a known display bug that has existed since I played the game when it came out 2 years ago. Generally saving and reloading fixes it so I didn't worry (known bug where it doesn't show portrait change when you use campaign fund to change results). However when my guy died not only did my heir not take over despite having way higher numbers than the second guy (due to gold) but I lost almost all of my territory (not just the stuff you're supposed to lose) I ended up with 2 provinces and now that I look at the titles and succession types I can see why. Instead of being Agnatic Seniority and deferring to my heir they are a weird mix (see below. Save game is here http://www.filedropper.com/maurzip
I would love to fix this game if possible. Dunno if there's any console commands to edit the succession types or a save game editor or something but also wanted to report the bug. I don't think we did anything outside of normal game play as I recall when I first started that the promoting a duke to mayor and saving and reloading as him was a common technique to change up who the playable republics are (but does break ruler designer of course)
Sultanate of Mauretania (under Umayyid Empire) is Expected Successor (Patrician with less score then my guy) as is grand city of Granada.
Republic of Tunis which is my non capital duchy with all entirely my demesne shows up as Agnatic Patrician Elective with the same guy as expected successor as 1 and my designated heir as 2.
Republic of Granada which is the actual capital duchy is also agnatic patrician elective but only lists the same guy as expected successor as 1 and nobody else
My house is the guy i picked.
All the other counties (all held by cities) are a mix of Primogeniture or Gavelkind with one randomly as Agnatic Open ELective.
Something seems seriously bugged here.
