Currently (and maybe even in earlier versions of the game; I just now realized this) it is not possible to use the first slot of any coat of arms gfx file.
The best way to observe this problem is when using the very first Christian coat of arms in the ruler designer or with the customizer: It should be the one with the fleur de lys (the first image in the pattern.tga in the gfx/coat_of_arms), but instead it is the second one with the bar at the top (Additional example: The big Indian elephant is also not selectable).
This problem occurs with every first coat of arms in any additional gfx file so the first of the pattern.tga, pattern2.tga and so on are all not usable in the ruler designer or the customizer. Even though it of course affects the DLC-coats of arms as well if enabled for the ruler designer, the dynasties have their respective ones loaded properly (E.g. the Abassids have their proper coat of arms).
