The following occurred on my Ironman game with all DLC installed (Sunset Invasion disabled). I've never played as a patrician, so I'm unfailiar with how their mechanics work, but I'm quite sure this is not WAD.
I was playing as the King of Lombardy with agnatic-cognatic gavelkind succession. I had one son (oldest) and two younger daughters. The eldest son had one son. I created a claim on Venice, pressed it, and claimed it. Then I usurped the duchy.
I didn't want to worry about it so I found a coutier with the highest stewardship and granted the duchy to him with holdings.
Immediately after granting the duchy I got a "new heir" message. My grandson was now my heir. "Oh crap!" I thought "My son died!". But this was not the case, he was alive and well, but when I hovered over his image it indicated he was the heir to Venice. I did a quick look online to see if anyone had noted something similar and found a mention that Patrician elections can take a little while to current. I assumed that this was in error and inheritance would resume as normal.
I played for some time and the status never updated (grandson still heir, son still headed for Venice). When I died, sure enough I began play as my grandson. Is this WAD?
One of the fears I have is that my son (heir to Venice) has many holdings in Lombardy which my grandson (current king) is set to inherit upon his demise. At present, the son (Venice) has not inherited Venice yet. If/when he does, what happens to his holdings? Do I need to revoke those titles to ensure their return to Lombardy?
Anyways, I can't help but think that during a patrician election direct successors to the king should not be eligible.
