[2.3.4, FMNO] Cannot play as a released Republic with DLC activated

Current save file with the problem.
The save game from before I tried mulling around to get it to work.

Description:
Well, not so much as play as a Republic- I can play as Republics. However, I cannot however play as a specific Republic.

Here is my thread in the General forum on this. where other players tested a bunch of work arounds but also can't seem to figure out the problem.

The background if you don't read the thread is thus:
I am playing a Tuscany game hoping to become the Republic of Florence. I have three duchies in territory, only 1 actual ducal title. I was trying to release Tuscany and Pisa as one state and just reload (it took me awhile to realize that you can't get a republic Doge to inherit/get elected monarchy territory).

I gave my son a City > upgraded him to a county (Lord Mayor) > and then gave him the duchy

The funky thing is when you go to reload the game as him, you cannot actually play as him because you get a 'Cannot play as Republics' message like you do if you are trying to play without the dlc or trying to play as a theocracy.

Think you will find you can't play as that realm because your son is not a patrician in that republic. A family can only be a patrician family in a single republic.

Additionally you do not have access to play republics. You have access to a patrician family inside a merchant republic. Since the Doge of that republic is not a patrician, he is not playable. When he does die, a patrician family will take over.

I haven't yet tried reproducing it using your saves but I think what Dracko said is very likely the case. The two cases where this happens are generally; when characters become inland republics and when doges come to rule without without having a house connected to their name. I'll see if I can find anything else in the details of this issue though. But thanks for the report!
