[2.3.4] Crusades against Sunnis ends immediately

For some reason, when I request a Crusade against Sunni kingdoms, the Crusade ends as soon as it begins. The message that calls for one pops up immediately with the message as if the Crusade was won. However, the target sultan did not convert and I had no chance to join the war. Also, the messages do not state the target kingdom, but do state the leader.

So far this only applies to Sunni leaders specifically (I have tried against Egypt and Africa). Crusades work against Indian religions at least. I've not tried against Pagans as there are not many of them left. Is this a bug? Thanks!

DLCs are all except Sunset Invasion. Game was started before Way of Life was available, but after everything else (can't remember what version exactly).

P.S. If it helps, requested Crusades were successful until 1246-ish from the Charlemagne start. The pope also called for Crusades like clockwork every 30 years(or whatever the cooldown time is) or I requested one up until that point.
