[2.3.4] Character killed himself in combat

I was looking around, to see what had happened with the Karlings, and I happened to notice that Pepin apparently had ended up somehow killing himself in combat against himself, as can be seen in the screenshot below. Clicking the red skull takes you to his character screen, as can be seen by loading up the attached save. (This is the earliest save I have after his death. If desired, I can provide a "before" save as well, though that was made three years prior to his death, so I'm not sure what good it would do.)

This issue is being tracked internally - though it's woefully lacking information. If you have any clue to what might have caused this, please tell us!

Unfortunately, this is all I know. As you can see, I only noticed it seven years after it happened. Again, if you think the earlier save (three years prior to death) could be useful, let me know and I'll upload it.
