I don't know if this problem was already adressed, but when kingdoms are under gavelkind and the king has no de jure county or duchy in his demesne, the kingdom title dissolve after succession. For example, the Kingdom of Cyprus is titular, so when the king has more than one son, the the youngest will get the counties, the middle one the duchy and one county while the oldest receives a empty kingdom title without land, thus he becomes landless while his brothers are independent counts or duke.
The same happens to the Kingdom of Armenia based on Cilicia in the Latin Empire bookmark. Because the King of Armenia holds no de jure land, and only the duchy and counties of Cilicia, his oldest son will get a empty kingdom title and become landless while the second son become a n independent duke of Cilicia and the youngest inherits a random county.
