[2.3.3] [DAQH] Strange things happen when I (Basileus ERE) inherit a Titular Theme from an infidel vassal

I have a vassal with a titular Duchy (Theme). When I revoke his last county, I inherit the Duchy as a Theme. It is considered a Theme (even though I am Emperor), and I cannot grant it to anyone else or destroy it. In addition, the vassal's former vassals are now my vassals but the ability to revoke their title is grayed out.

All DLC's enabled
No Mods

Reproduction Steps:
1. You are Orthodox Emperor of the ERE. Have a vassal who is the Fylkir and Strategos of Gotland (and with vassals).
2. Revoke the Fylkir's last holding.
3. You get the holding. The Fylkirate is destroyed. And apparently you "inherit" the Duchy of Gotland but as a Theme (not as a Duchy).
4. See how you are unable to revoke the titles of the Fylkir's former vassals.

Normally, when a character loses his last holding, his Duke/King/Emperor level titles are destroyed. I expected the Gotland duke title to be destroyed but I think it is probably a quirk with the Viceroyalty mechanism.

I don't know how to attach files, but I can send you a copy of a saved game where everything is set up so you can reproduce the bug.

(And if you are at it, you can also see occurrences of Christians having multiple WIVES (not concubines)).

Hello! I'd love the save file where this is present, you can use a free file sharing site (like https://www.mediafire.com/) to upload the save and link it here. That'd be much appreciated, thank you!

Hi. I have uploaded the save file to Mediafire and PM'ed you the link. If anyone else on the Dev Team wants to see the file, let me know and I can send you the Mediafire link.

In the saved game, I am in a Tyranny War against my Vassal, the Fylkir who is Strategos of Gotland and holds the County of Varend and Temple of Maere. His vassals are the Chief of Braunschweig and the Godi of Tholen.

1. After loading, my retinue troops are 3 days away from reaching undefended Varend and Maere. You can siege down those two provinces over the next 3 days. Warscore will then be at 86% and the Fylkir will be willing to Surrender if you ask him for it.

2. After the war, you can revoke the County of Varend and/or the Temple of Maere (he may or may not give away the temple during before the war ends). Upon revoking his last holding, he becomes unlanded, the Fylkirate is destroyed, you gain the THEME (not Duchy) of Gotland, and Braunschweig and Tholen become your vassals.

3. Sometimes, when Braunschweig and Tholen become your vassals, the "Revoke Title" is grayed out. However, this gets resolved on exiting the game and reloading.

4. However, the main problem is that you get Gotland back as a THEME. You are Emperor, but you cannot grant the Theme of Gotland to anyone or destroy it. This does NOT get fixed by reloading the game.

5. One way the player can work around this problem is by not revoking anything from the Fylkir. Instead, execute him and you inherit Gotland as a DUCHY (which can be granted or destroyed normally). His heir then gets Varend (and/or Maere) and the Fylkirate. You can then revoke from the heir.

I have not encountered this issue before, but it does involve a combination of three conditions that are not commonly together. I would guess that the problems is either:

A. An issue with the Viceroyalty mechanics
B. An issue possibly complicated by Titular Viceroyalties (Gotland)
C. An issue possibly complicated by an infidel vassal Religious Head (Fylkir)

(I will start a separate thread about the Multiple Wives issue).

Hello! Thanks for the save - unfortunately something seems off with it. When I load it, I've got over 1300 vassals and can't really follow your repro steps because of it (I tested the save using both our in-house version and the live version of CK2). Have you been using mods by any chance?

Hello.

No mods. Have not ever used a mod for CK2.

Uh, I do have lots of vassals in that game.

At that point in the game, my "vassal limit" is 46/48, which only counts feudal vassals of Count rank or higher.

When you go to the load screen, it lists 319 vassals, which means that 273 (319 - 46 = 273) are probably tribal Chieftains. (Most of Scandinavia, Wendish, Russian, Tartarian, Malinese, and Carpathian counties are still tribal and they are mostly my Count-level vassals).

But if you look under the Vassals tab on the character sheet, it does indeed show 1293 vassals. Which means about 974 of them (1293 - 319 = 974) are barony level (barons, mayors, bishops). Yeah, I guess some people might consider it a bit gamey, but I have a few in-game techniques for keeping the mayors and bishops when handing out counties (in order to boost my income while also keeping my vassals weak). So sorry about the 1300 vassals!

Is the game not loading for you? Or is it running irregularly due to all the vassals? Or you are doing the steps and not getting the same result?

When the vassals tab is highlighted (on the Military screen or the Character screen), it does run a bit slowly but it works faster if you highlight a different tab.

Do you want me to send you a different saved game? For example, I have a later saved file where the Fylkir is already imprisoned and has a single title left, so all you need to do is revoke it to inherit Gotland as a Theme.

Sorry for the trouble!

I managed to reproduce it using your save, sorry for the trouble.

Thanks for the report, the issue has been added to the internal database.
