2.3.2 Rum with negative cash not suffering from lack of funds, mercs not quitting

Byzantine Empire from the "Latin Empire" bookmark. Rum has 15k Ghilman mercenaries as vassals, which makes up about three quarters of their army, and seems to have had them raised continuously, with negative money, since almost the start of the game. He doesn't seem to be suffering from "Lack of Funds" despite the negative balance and his mercs won't quit.

The red pile of coins is "Owes 350 gold to Jewish Moneylenders", not "Lack of Funds".

This is particularly aggravating since I know from experience that my own vassal mercs, the Varangian Guard, will certainly quit if I run out of money. Rum, by contrast, seems to have unlimited credit.

I've made a copy of the save, but it's ironman so I don't know how useful it'll be.

This is, unfortunate for you, WAD. The mercenaries you talk about they are a vassal of the sultan of Rum and that is why they don't disband.

But there is a problem if the AI never disbands them and keeping them raised even in peace time. Do you know if that happens?

I thought they did, but I wasn't watching them every moment and it may be they just had other wars going on whenever I looked (I particularly remember a revolt happening before my war ended).

About vassal mercenaries not quitting: I distinctly remember the Varangian Guard disbanding themselves when I couldn't pay them. Though it may be relevant that that was another playthrough from the Old Gods bookmark when they were still pagan.

Hmm... I started a game from the Old Gods start date, created the Varangian Guard but they did not disband for me when i ran out of money.

Could you retry it doing it again and if they do disband come back to me with exactly what you did. Would not be the first time something broke for some strange specific reason ^^

I would like to add that same Ghilmans do this when hired by Seljuks as well. In addition, whenever Seljuk seem to ran out of money he got cash injection for 300 gold constantly. Surely he cannot borrow from holy orders all the time?
