[2.3.2] MMUR - Cannot appoint new Ecclesiarch

Here is my situation. Please tell me if I am missing something in the game mechanics that actually should stop me from being able to appoint a new Ecclesiarch now that the old one, Iconoclast Patriarch Niketas, managed to fall to his death off one of my balconies. I'm playing as the Basileus in the 769 start.

1. I get the event where one of my sons' wives tries to convert me from Iconoclast to Orthodox, and I accept.
2. Little over a year later I notice that the Patriarch of Constantinople, my Ecclesiarch Niketas, is Iconoclast. I also notice that I have near instadeath 885% potential plot power against him, so I carpe that particular diem ...
3. I am now sans one Ecclesiarch ... but I cannot for the life of me appoint anyone else! I have even invited a random holy man to court in an attempt to fill the council seat with any warm body to no avail.

Is this a bug or am I missing something?

I can try to get you my savefile, although it's a cloud ironman save so I'm not sure it will work. Hope to hear your thoughts, Desslok out.

OK, don't worry about this one anymore. After a couple years one lone courtier magically appeared and became Orthodox Patriarch David once I made him my Ecclesiarch. I'm still quite foggy on why he came to be in my court and why there seemed to be no ability to generate any Orthodox clergy capable of becoming Ecclesiarch, but one way or another it is solved.

Whereas the following is not directly related to my problem, I also noticed the decision to reform the Ecumenical Patriarchy is now present. I don't have the 1000 piety needed yet but I'm on my second holy war against Muslims and I already put down one Iconoclast uprising, so I'm getting there quickly. Maybe once I get an official patriarch, things will work more normally ... it does seem odd though how I can even have this unofficial Patriarch David who I did nothing to or for other than to make him my court Ecclesiarch ... I SO feel like I am missing something with all this ... maybe multiple somethings ...

Glad it worked out for you.

The reason you was unable to appoint a new Ecclesiarch, might have been because of you not having any Orthodox bishops to appoint. If I remember correctly, only a landed bishop can be appointed (so no landless courtiers). And if you converted to another religion by a random event, you were probably the only one who converted. So all your bishops was probably still Iconoclast. And yeah, the Orthodox Patriarch does not exist from the 769 bookmark, so if you don't use the special "renounce Iconoclasm" decision, you will first have to create it.
