My complaint with stratified society is the complete opposite of yours.

Under a stratified economy pops should not be able to be demoted from the ruler class without a societal rework.
Once you've reached the top of the social strata nothing short of revolution is going to make you move down again.
I also think specialists should have at least 5x demotion time under stratified economy.
While you argue that they'll either listen or starve, the fact is that ruler and specialist pops under stratified economies have HUGE political power.
You wouldn't just be able to remove them without massive revolts, from everyone who now suddenly didn't feel safe in their social position anymore.

And at the other extreme, in a Shared Burden society, pops should have -100% 'demotion' time, because social strata are a concept that has been made obsolete by the achievement of true communism, where someone working on a farm has exactly the same social prestige and quality of life as someone managing the planetary administration.

At the species level, I'd make Decadent a -2 cost trait, but Decadent pops should be especially reluctant to demote to Worker stratum, and new Decadent pops should have a chance to be born Specialist even if there are only Worker jobs available. (Also make it an invalid trait for Gestalt starts, if it isn't already.) There could be a converse 'Humble' trait, costing a point, that lets pops of that species demote faster.

Currently the more egalitarian living standards do get a bonus to demotion speed, but it could be more extreme in both directions.

So, let me get this straight.

You like the big, overall changes Paradox made with 2.2/Megacorp, but because of two small balance changes you disagree with, you describe 2.2 as a whole as "paradox faceplanting into a ditch?"

Also, living metal, dark matter, and nanites already fit the bill of rare resources as you defined here. If you ignore the fact that volatile motes, exotic gases, and rare crystals are called "rare resources," their implementation meshes pretty well with other mechanics. It sounds like simply moving motes, gases, and crystals into a new category of "uncommon/ strategic resources" would solve your objections to the current system.

If they complain they can then carry their stuck up butts to the homeless shelter and soup kitchen. No work, no benefits! And thats if you're a benevolent empire/government. An evil criminal / dictatorship would just end the misery of a useless eater in some far off ditch! lol

ugh... but they ARE part of the leadership. in that dictatorship. it's not like you went up to a bunch of rulers are removed them from power, it's a process of various people fighting each other to maintain their power base. in a Stratified society, even your forge workers will be from forge families, and they're fighting to keep their job, before they must reluctantly admit defeat and take lower strata jobs.

you're going against powerful people in your country, the dictatorship relies on these powerful people to maintain order. There's a reason the generals get payed very well in a dictatorship, because if you decided to willy nilly, remove people from power, they'll kill you, they don't care who you are. the long duration is to show the effort it takes to remove these entire "pops" from their power positions without internal turmoil.

The only thing I have a problem with in 2.2 is how they implemented the Market system, this mechanic is not great and I have a hard time seeing how they can ever fix it without it being broken or at the very least very flawed in its current way it works.

Otherwise things are quite fine and just need some love and care to get the balance right and bugs stomped out.

The only thing I have a problem with in 2.2 is how they implemented the Market system, this mechanic is not great and I have a hard time seeing how they can ever fix it without it being broken or at the very least very flawed in its current way it works.

It would be nice to have an actual market, which would allow for things like war proffiteering (X and Y just declared rivalry, I know Y uses lots of crystal in their ships so start buying up the supply and increase our aloy stockpile) and other manipulations, imagene the fun of selling food at a loss because you over produce, to the point where it was chaeper for AIs to simply buy from you, and then abruptly canceling the sell orders.

or imagine gaining gaurentees because you supply so much of X resource to the market. the AIs will try to prevent the disruption of your economy. :p
