[2.2] Charlemagne Republic Game Over

I started in the charlemagne Timeline, playing as Venice. Then my character dies and I can't play as patracian und got the game over screen: You have become the ruler of a republic therefore are no longer allowed to continue playing.

I have all the dlcs of CK2 activated.

Does anybody knows, what happened?

Bug in 2.2.
Should be fixed in the Open Beta patch.
There seems to be still an issue with newly created extra holdings on inheritance if you lose the doge title, but all others issues with inheritance/losing the doge title should be fixed..

You can try to load your game in there, but might have to start a new one.
