1. select custom game
2. select 1241 bookmark
3. can't select venice to play ("not allowed to play republics")

All DLC are active and I can play other merchant republics. It appears somehow Venice doesn't count as a merchant republic in this bookmark. Probably history file error?

weird

I dont play alot of republics, so there may be some rule here that I dont remember right now... anyway, some republics are not playable at game start for no obvious reason. Venice is a exemple. Even by choosing to only show republics on the custom start menu.

I did a quick test: instead of the Doge I started as a Patrician in Venice. I killed the old dude and I won the election. Now I am the Doge of Venice...

Hmm looks like in 1241 the Doge is not part of any of the patrician families which is super weird. This means you can't play as him since while he is the head of a merchant republic he is not part of a patrician dynasty.

This is something we are aware of. The problem is, as Twainer suggested, that in some bookmarks, the doge doesn't belong to any of the patrician families. Which doesn't give him the "Republic" status. In some occasions, the current doge is also lowborn and therefore not playable. This is not something of a priority at the moment. But hopefully something we can fix somewhere down the line.
