Hi! The Ilkhanate ruler died in 1137 and his oldest infant son was supposed to inherit the empire. The succession law was gavalkind system. However, the younger sons which inherited the duchies somehow gained independence upon the succession, and the oldest son was left landless without control of the vassals - having only the Ilkhanate Empire title left in possession and NOTHING else. This sounds like something odd going on with the vassal limit combined with titular titles?

This occurred 15 years ago and I did not notice this happening until I checked upon the mongol status. I'm not sure what more information to provide. I'm playing on Iron Man mode and am unsure how to provide a save file for developers to look into.

This happened in my game too. Very weird to inherit an emperor title, but no actual land (so no capital). I was also playing in Iron Man mode using the 2.2.0.9 beta.

Would be helpful if you both sent Paradox a save game (unless you want to give a complete rundown of their succcessors and titles on death).

Its basicly a case of gavelkind contriving to give away all the demense to somebody else on death, leaving the higher title holder landless, which then destroys it. Unfortunately they aren't easy to set up and debug

My game was a cloud save, so not sure how to upload that save. So here is a list of successors and titles when Khagan Genghis died :

1) Heir Jochi (oldest son) inherited the title Khagan and the Mongol Empire (only includes the duchy of Samarkand), but that is all - no land.

2) Chagatai (second oldest son) inherited the counties in the duchy of Samarkand and is a direct vassal of Khagan Jochi.

3) Ogodei (third oldest son) inherited the counties in the duchy of Zhetysu and the county of Chach (which was the capital), and is an independent ruler.

4) Tolui (forth and youngest son) inherited the county of Balkh and is an independent ruler.

Playing with 2.2.1, the exact same result occurred with the death of Genghis.

I should note that prior to his death, Genghis held all territory in the empire of Mongolia (the same as in my previous game).

Yeah, I tried starting up as Genghis Khan and killed him on day one. It ends up with a very strange succession, similar to the one described by Tobinius. Might be something related to gavelkind and having a titular title. Anyway, I'll look into it. Thanks for sharing!
