I was playing an Ironman game and had lasted multiple generations, starting as the Kingdom of the Lombards and forming the Holy Roman Empire. After conquering much of the realm of the Franks (I had basically everything finally) my Emperor died. Now, the Emperor had no male children but the Holy Roman Empire title was set to Agnatic-Cognatic Primogeniture and likewise, the Duchy which housed the Capital of the Empire (Tuscany) had Agnatic-Cognatic Primogeniture as well. My oldest daughter was married matrilineally and had a male son, making her the preferred heir to the Empire. That said, upon succession the Kingdom of Lombardy and Holy Roman Empire titles exploded and I found myself playing as a random, different daughter of mine who inherited the Duchy of Tuscany for some reason. She should not have inherited the Duchy of Tuscany because the Holy Roman Empire and the Duchy were on Primogeniture succession. The Kingdom of Lombardy was left on Gavelkind, but shouldn't the Empire tier succession override that? I'd of been fine with the losing the Kingdom of Lombardy title, but it instead imploded those two titles and gave the Duchy of Tuscany to my one daughter. I lost all of my gold, my score, and my troops (The gold and score my heir had. You know, the one the game made it sound like I was inheriting as?) The Capital went to the Queen of Lombardy for some reason, the Duchy to someone else, and the Emperor to my one daughter. The Kingdom exploded and the Empire exploded and for some reason my Primogeniture Empress did not inherit the capital of the Empire, instead in actuality the Duchess did? Not even the Queen of Lombardy? This succession makes no sense.

Yeah, she didn't last long as Empress.

Here we see the title exploded instantly. Also, for some reason, I am playing as the Duchess of Tuscany? What?

Oh hey, my 5,000 ducats are gone and so is my 22.0k score. Nice.

Unfortunately we can't really seem to come up with what might be wrong here at the moment. If you had a save game that would of course be gold worth. From testing, this doesn't seem to be due to different titles having different succession laws. But anyone who has a clue, feel free to chime in.

What happened to your demense? (More importantly, was it all in the duchy of tuscany?)It looks like gavelkind for lombardy has tried to split between your other two daughters, with the result that the duchess has inherited your entire demense, making the other two titles cease for not having a landed holder.

But no, succession laws for empire titles don't normally overrule kingdom titles (or kingdoms each other). Elective gavelkind does but its a bit weird.
