Since 2.2 (?) in multiplayer after a rehost the game tries to remember which character was played by who and adds that information to the save game.
The result of this is, however, that some players cannot select their old character at all. At this point this applies to other players as well: The character that cannot be selected by the person who played him before cannot be selected by anyone else, either.
Might be linked to a blank in the character's first name, hard to pin down. Because for some it worked perfectly and their character was correctly selected for them.
A workaround is that the GM each time has to save the savegame in singleplayer to remove the character information.
