I've had this odd crash happen after resigning from one game in the attempt to reload from a past save. It also is accompanied by a change of checksum. When I load the game initially the checksum is fine but often after resigning from one game it changes almost always to either FKQZ or GKQZ

Not so much "often" as "every time" - this is by design and has been happening ever since you've had the game. It also happens with EU4 and EU3 that you have too. The idea is that when you resign or crash out of an MP game, you are then forced to restart the wrong game .exe , which aids MP stability.

As Andrew said, changing the checksum is by design. Do you get any crashes if you first restart the game? We are aware of the issue with CTDs specifically when resigning from a game and starting a new one.
