This problem started with the release of RoI, and was thought fixed in the last patch as Doges were getting distance penalties while none of the Patricians were. Even with that fixed, however, Doges of AI Republics in either body of water are not creating trade posts. The other families are, technology is high enough, and they have more than enough money to build several posts, but they won't build any.

Once the Doge dies and someone else inherits the Republic, the new Doge's family will stop building trade posts and the former Doge's family will start. Tested this across multiple games with multiple Republic locations, cultures, religions, and families, the bug is consistent.

Happened to me too, but didn't think of a bug until now. Silly AI. ;)

So created republics and all patricians build TPs, but the Doge.

I don't think thats intentional.
There could be a reason, like the Doge shall focus on the republic affairs rather than use the money for his own, but i don't think that's historical plausible. :D
I hope that gets fixed.

Yeah, I was able to reproduce this, no problem.

Might be that it's WAD, considering he would be building the new trade post with the republics money, rather than his own (like the other patricians). But I did put up a report of it, so that it might be looked at nonetheless. :)

Thanks.
Regarding, WAD, well it didn't work that way before 2.1 or such, so the question is part of the confusions when no one really knows why that is, as stuff like this, if an intentional change, sometimes doesn't get mentioned in the patch notes.

After a few years, I went inside of one of the doges and I see that he actually built a lot of stuff in his palace to increase levy (his palace levy is ~600+), but he didn't upgrade the Mansion. All other patricians built 2 trade posts each, but doge built 0.
