A patrician with no holdings beyond his family palace does not suffer any distance penalties to trade post costs.
As a result, patricians end up setting up trade posts far away from their realm, since there's nothing stopping them from doing so and some of the far away counties are considered more valuable than nearby ones (E.G., Constantinople, Sjælland, Holland).
Patricians with normal holdings don't get this issue.
Depending on the start date, there's anything from 4 to 12 patricians that don't have any regular holdings, so strange trade post placement is a common issue.
