On autonomous vassals, generals can be assigned to lead levy troops once but are permanent once selected. If the general is then assigned to lead another group of troops, it clears him from the original group which is then open to selection again. The generals for demesne troops can be changed at will.

Sounds like WAD for autonomous vassals... or actually, it sounds like you've described a loophole to get around the restriction on reassigning generals for autonomous vassals.

In accordance to the latest patch, you should now be able to select generals for flanks that are empty, regardless of crown authority. This however, does sound like an exploit of sorts. I'll look into it. Thanks!
