I honestly give up with this thread. I figured you guys would want straight answers, but it seems you don't. Which is fine, but those are the types of answers you get from me, so I'll leave you guys to it here.

I honestly give up on PI games, it has become clear that once you already have the money from paying customers your level of support goes drasticly down.

For those that didnt follow the beta threads there was 1 person responsible for the SF follow up patches. He went on vacation for the entire month of july and almost none of the reported bugs in the last beta were worked on before the release of the 'official' 2.03 release at the beginning of august.

To be honest I wonder if this is a result of incompetence (ie you cant fix it) or just blatant disregard for your customers (you wont fix it). And if your interested, here are a few things that would bring this up to the standard of a finished game:

1. Diplomacy - nations act within a basic acceptable range and alliances work as inteneded.

eg Italy doesnt ally poland and then join the axis, resulting in being in and at war with axis at same time etc

2. Nations build a range of appropriate units.

eg doesnt build 400 transport ships or spend all its IC on AA and infra

3. Nations assign the units it does build to appropriate areas.

eg CAGs actualy being put on carriers, no strat bombers on carriers, no mass of units in 1 province etc

4. Nations promote and assign leaders to its command hiearchy.

eg Doesnt happen at all

5. Nations assign leaders to approrpiate unit types.

eg Doesnt happen at all

6. Nations dont completly abandon one border with and enemy just to put all units on the border with another.

eg France does this with italy very commonly, allowing italy to walk into their entire country.

There are a lot more but you get the idea ... basicly a WWII game where the CORE fundamentals of WWII warfare is represented. Up until now HOI3 has failed and failed badly, we have waited patiently for these type of issues to be resolved. We had faith in PI that they would deliver and that the money we spent would be worth it in the end. Silly us

But hey, lets release some more DLC and expansions and milk some more cash from us suckers still waiting for core game issues to be resolved.

Luck with VicyII guys, I hope you all dont throw money away on a poor product (again) and that the advertised changes to QA and beta testing arent just more PR BS.

Cheers.

Bye Bye then
I hope you find more luck with other companies. (EA or Ubisoft for example)

I mean where is a company where the programmers directly and honestly answer to you ??
and answer often to questions or wishes in the forum.
I know no one.
Where is a company that support games - even years after release (f.e. EuIII) ????
Where is a company which sells games like these ?

For me Hoi 3 is absolutely fine
I can really live with all the existing minor bugs - patch 2.03 is a bit unlucky.

As i said , better luck with other games from other companies - bye bye

p.s.

And by the way , even if Victoria 2 would have 120.000 bugs - i would buy it though -
cause i know no other games like this

To be honest, I find it rally hard to understand why the battle percentages are the worst of the problems... Sure, the patch is messed (probably because the last programmer that worked on it went to vacation, and you wanted to have the patch before that, so they had to rush it), but IMHO the completely screwed localisation is much worse :)

Actually, playing around with 2.03b Vanilla a little bit I can now understand the complaints concerning battle percentages. It's extremely annoying when you have to look for battle percentages in the outliner and the info is no longer readily available to you on the map. It's especially the case in the Eastern Front, where things are done on a LARGE scale.

It all requires very frequent pauses and slows down the gameplay pace...

Patch text errors

There seem to be some text errors in the SF 2.03 patch. For example, Europe is not capitalized on the menu and the text "model_tag" appears in the model description on the production screen.

I suppose I could of lied to you all, or perhaps not told you anything.

Telling the truth and being upfront is good. I appreciate that I got a straight answer to my question. Fixing a new problem which your latest patch introduced, especially one which is obvious (how did it get past your quality control?) and widespread (it affects all land battles) and doing so quickly would be good customer support. Being truthful and providing good customer support are not mutually exclusive, neither are they the same thing. Don't take it personally.

To echo lambrf,
Telling us, customers, that bugs introduced in the patch won't be fixed before several weeks is a wrong answer. No matter the reason can be, it does not look serious and customer orientated. Not having programmers available is internal business.
The good answer would have been to work on the issues and provide fixes as soon as possible.

The screwed localisation is worse. You can't tell what half the triggers for decisions or laws are, though the green/red star will tell you which ones you have achieved, some events come up with EVENTNM120 as the title or something similar (the new Munich event for the UK).

Yes it is but still I would rather wait one more week so they could properly test it than just rush it. I actually highly doubt that it was tested at all since there are bugs which could be identified very soon. Repairing them I don't know but I don't really think it would take so much time...

I can't even count how many posts I saw asking and some even demanding that patch be released despite the vacations. It seems that no one at Paradox is allowed a vacation.

As for patches they seem to be damned if they do damned if they dont

To be fair I wonder if this issue might be related to their new outsourcing of QA. Does anyone know when they started this? If it's recent they may have decided to take the QA company at it's word that things were fine

You clearly have no idea what 'blatant disregard for your customers' is. For it to be true 'blatant disregard' they would need to say 'We are not fixing anything ever' and thats it. No King on the forums answering questions or anyone else for that matter. There certainly wouldn't be any patches

As for everything else - how can he work on the bugs if he's gone on vacation? With all the people asking/demanding a patch it is no suprise to me that the patch was released without addressing any newley reported issues that weren't seen as gamebreaking.

In addition to the missing combat balloons and missing texts, there are some few more problems I've encountered playing till 1940:

  • Cancelling an brigade being upgraded (to a different type of brigade) deletes the brigade, instead of returning it to it's unit.
  • The Diplomacy Triangle is bugged. Sometimes the little flag-blobs are clickable, sometime not.
  • Theatre AI places units inside other theatres to guard vital provinces and borders
  • The AI merges fleets, despite not allowed to. It seem to happen mostly to small fleets, 2 or perhaps up to 5 ships.

Still, not all bad. Naval Combat is a blast, at least if you keep a good reserve of extra screens. It feels like naval bombers are no longer blown to smithereens in an instant, which is great.

Folks, let's settle down a bit, please. If you really, really hate the official 2.03 patch, there's an easy remedy, which is to reinstall the game from scratch, plug the 2.03b beta on top of it, and go your merry way. It's virtually identical to the release patch anyway, and it has none of the problems that crept in mysteriously between that version and the official one.

I've seen bugged releases of "official" patches from Matrix's delvelopers, Firaxis, everyone. Sh*t happens. It's not the end of the world, and it will get fixed once the entire team is back in harness.

Sheesh . . .

Of course, it happens. And the reply made to such issues makes all the difference..
The timing of this particular pile of doo-doo, as the kids say here in the States, was particularly unfortunate. I think King said as much earlier. What else would you want him to do? He's not the programmer of SF.

I am a customer. It does not matter what King is working on. It does not matter if they don't have any programmer available or if they are on vacation (it was already given as a reason all July), as ressource managment is purely internal business. It does not matter if they are fair and tell the truth about ETA (which I appreciate), or if they were pushed to release it (they have been since begin of June, why did it suddenly make a difference).
All that matters to me as a customer is the product I paid for and the state of the patch that has been delivered: it is full of bugs and won't be fixed before weeks.
And it is not specificaly about King, but about Paradox as a company.
